🐾 Cubby’s on assistant duty today!
He’s spreading joy through fluff and smiles, taking the occasional nap (snores included 💤), and reminding me — and maybe you too — that even small moments can make a big difference. 💛
Need a little pause in your day? Cubby says it’s okay to stop, breathe, and enjoy the little things. 🐶✨

🐾 Therapy Assistant of the Day: Cubby! 🐶

Today my fuzzy companion Cubby is joining me in sessions — spreading calm, comfort, and a few extra smiles.

If you’re working through trauma, anxiety, or stress, animals can be powerful partners in healing. Pets can help regulate your nervous system, offer comfort, and bring you back to the present moment — all of which are key tools in trauma therapy and mindfulness-based healing.

Here are a few simple ways to use your pet to ground and reconnect:

✨ TOUCH: Gently pet your animal and notice the rhythm of your hand. This physical connection can signal safety to your body and support nervous system regulation.

👀 NOTICE: Take in the colors of their fur, the texture beneath your fingers, the warmth of their body. Mindful noticing helps you stay present when trauma memories or anxiety feel overwhelming.

🌬️ BREATHE: Take slow, grounding breaths — in through your nose for 3, hold for 3, out through your mouth for 3. Deep breathing helps your body calm and reset.

And remember — not every pet loves attention (results with cats may vary 😜).

If you’re looking for trauma therapy in Tampa, mindfulness strategies, or ways to manage anxiety, therapy can help you find safety and connection again — just like Cubby helps me bring calm into the room. 💛

My top three values to incorporate in therapy are:
Authenticity
Knowledge
Genuineness
As a trauma and couples therapist, I show up authentically and who I actallly am. I use humor and realness and want my clients to as well. 💕
Knowledge is because so many times clients have been holding the load and it can feel nice to let it down at times.
What are your top three values that you bring into the world or that you value in a therapist?

Sometimes it can be hard to be authentic when that critical voice comes in and “tells you lies”
When we are not authentic it can cause us to feel like we are lying to ourselves which leads to burnout, depression and exhaustion. So shine your true light! Your people will accept all different aspects of who are you.

How many people struggle to express their needs in fear of hurting others or people being upset? In my work with clients, this is a common fear! Something I let clients know is healthy people in your life will be open to hearing your needs and if the other person did not speak up their needs it is not your job to mind read. This is also some of my own work that I am doing! Share a time this year you went outside your comfort zone and expressed a need :)

Who else tends to run things through their mind trying to prepare for the future? 🙋‍♀️ this is actually pretty common. It is pur brains way to trying to protect us from “danger” The thing is that it is actaully not helpful! So next time this happens for you try thanking your brain for trying to protect you and ask if we really know if this true and if it is helpful. And if it is not just allow that thought to flow down an imagery of a river 🏞️

Cubby is part my self care. Having him around increases my mood and lowers my anxiety. He also sometimes comes to work with me as a little assistant at work. Share pictures of your little work buddy’s or pets that are like family to you!
