🐾 Therapy Assistant of the Day: Cubby! 🐶
Today my fuzzy companion Cubby is joining me in sessions — spreading calm, comfort, and a few extra smiles.
If you’re working through trauma, anxiety, or stress, animals can be powerful partners in healing. Pets can help regulate your nervous system, offer comfort, and bring you back to the present moment — all of which are key tools in trauma therapy and mindfulness-based healing.
Here are a few simple ways to use your pet to ground and reconnect:
✨ TOUCH: Gently pet your animal and notice the rhythm of your hand. This physical connection can signal safety to your body and support nervous system regulation.
👀 NOTICE: Take in the colors of their fur, the texture beneath your fingers, the warmth of their body. Mindful noticing helps you stay present when trauma memories or anxiety feel overwhelming.
🌬️ BREATHE: Take slow, grounding breaths — in through your nose for 3, hold for 3, out through your mouth for 3. Deep breathing helps your body calm and reset.
And remember — not every pet loves attention (results with cats may vary 😜).
If you’re looking for trauma therapy in Tampa, mindfulness strategies, or ways to manage anxiety, therapy can help you find safety and connection again — just like Cubby helps me bring calm into the room. 💛
