How much water do you really need to be drinking? We say aiming for 1/2 your body weight in ounces is a good bench mark. This can vary based on your activity level or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, but it’s a good start!

Practical Tips for Increasing Water Intake from Dr. Carly:

1. Consider picking out a new, exciting, or cute water bottle that will catch your attention and keep you motivated.

Think about these things when choosing:

-Size: Do you prefer something easy to carry around/throw in a bag, or something you only have to fill once or twice per day? Consider that when choosing between 24oz, 32oz, or 40oz.

-Color: Do you think seeing the water will help keep you motivated? Would having measurement lines or time stamps on the water bottle help keep you on track?

-Lid Type: Will having a cap that you have to unscrew be enough of a hassle that you will drink less water? Do you like drinking out of a straw?

-Travel: Does it fit in your cup holder? Is it important that it seals enough to put in your bag?

2. Habit Stack! About to take your dog outside? Drink some water. Leaving the house for work? Drink some water. It is all about adding water into the routine you already have!

3. Set a reminder on your phone! Having a hard time drinking water throughout the day? Set a timer on your phone to go off every hour or 30 minutes, and drink water every time it goes off!

4. Start with a realistic goal! If you are starting with only drinking a half cup of water every day, it is not realistic to jump all the way up to half your body weight in ounces over night! So start small, and continue to work up to your goal amount. Progress over perfection!

5. See a pelvic floor therapist! If you have been avoiding drinking water due to leakage or urinary frequency, we are here to help! You should never feel like you need to sacrifice hydration! We want you to feel your best, and we are here for you!

To the ones who have been told to never lift weights again or are afraid to lift their kids or grandkids... It doesn’t have to be that way. With the just-right “recipe” for you, pelvic rehab can make the world of difference.

Here are some of Dr. Paige’s favorite key ingredients that build off each other and include whole-body strengthening to support your pelvic floor strength and reduce prolapse symptoms.

1. Breath work to support abdominal pressure management
2. Pelvic floor strengthening in gravity-eliminating positions
3. Put it all together with functional training that resembles the way you love to move!

Surgery is only one option for prolapse. Pelvic floor therapy is a key ingredient to improve prolapse symptoms and prevent worsening over time — whether avoiding surgery entirely, preparing before surgery, or rehab following surgery for long-lasting results. With custom treatment plans, hour-long visits, and a team of women who specialize in pelvic floor therapy exclusively, you can be assured you are in the right place!
