Did you know salt can be a source of contaminants and heavy metals, like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic? A study in 2018 showed that 90% of table and sea salts around the world contained microplastics. We cook with salt everyday, so I want to make sure I am using a safe (and tasty!) option for my family. As with everything, good choices are even more important for children. We chose for this very reason.
Most of their salt is harvested from water from the Pacific Northwest, which they chose because the water is naturally filtered by the oysters and bivalves that live in the bay. The water is then filtered three times before beginning the salt making process (one UV filter, two sets of Reverse Osmosis filters, and then additional micron filters).
They also test the final product for contaminants and heavy metals to ensure safety from the beginning to end of the process.
Pictured above is my most recent order (the amount I needed to purchase to get free shipping). I purchased kosher salt for most of my cooking, flake salt for finishing and fine sea salt for salad dressings and the table. I also purchased a few of their flavored salts, which I will use to finish veggies and salads on occasion. I purchased directly, but I have also included a few of their items in my recommended products on my website.
It also doesn’t hurt that their packaging is in our wedding colors and already matches our kitchen!
