Week FOUR of Barbell Beginnings complete 💪✨

This week reminded me that progress isn’t always about how much weight you lift — sometimes it’s about how well you can pivot.

Planks have always been a challenge for me. And for reasons I still don’t fully understand, this week (and a few past weeks) they triggered left-side/kidney pain. Not ideal. Not predictable. And definitely humbling.

But here’s the real win 👉 learning to accept when a movement just isn’t the right one for that moment… and knowing it’s okay to choose a different option.

I’m incredibly grateful for a coach who sees it before I even have to say it — who offers modifications without judgment, while still encouraging me and believing I could complete the original movement if it was safe to do so. That balance of support and challenge? That’s everything.

This journey is teaching me that strength isn’t just physical.
It’s listening to your body.
It’s adapting instead of quitting.
It’s showing up anyway.

And sometimes… it’s holding a plank, sometimes it’s choosing a different path — both are still progress. 💗

** PS have test for my kidney next week so hopefully some answers!

Well the day turned around and I was surprised when a local group donated $700 to SGK and found out their was a match going on that made it $2800!! As well as being asked to share my journey over the next few months leading up to the pink ball where they asked me to be the guest speaker! Hummm Public speaking…..

Honored and blessed !

Good morning , well it will be after I have a little self pity party and vent and then I will get on my way!

Almost 3 years ago I was hittting my physical fitness prime, working out, feeling great, exercising, confidence and yes approaching the weight goal I wanted !

Then I heard the words you had breast cancer- 3/13/2023!

Then I meet with doctors about our plan and was told not to loose any more weight 4/2023

Then DMX & DEIP flap reconstruction 5/31/2023

Then 6 rounds of dense chemo ended 10/25/23

Then rounds of radiation ended 12/22/23

The 18 rounds of immunotherapy injections ended 7/24

Then 8 rounds of Zoladex to put me in chemical menopause 8/24

Then start 5 years of post chemo meds … Anastrozole- allergic to now 12/24
….Letrozole- couldn’t tolerate 2/25
….Exemesteane …pain sooo bad 12/25
Now tamoxifen….

2 reconstructive surgeries

Other complications / developments
Hearing loss in both ears - hearing aids 12/24

4 kidney procedures / 2 surgery’s /countless scans and test… still going on

Blood Pressure issues due to all of the above… amlodipine daily

Neuropathy on and off

Eye contacts prescription changed 4 times

And more things that i am sure i blocked out !

Yes I am here, yes I am active, yes I am blessed but frustrated…..
I work out
I walk
I 90% eat healthy
I don’t drink / smoke
But yet my body doesn’t want to join me back in my health journey of weight loss again !

Hummmm maybe I need to go back to Dr E and have him tell my body it’s okay to start loosing weight again!!!!!

I know I got this but ughhhhhhhhh

Confidence can’t be weighed — but it can be built. 💪🩷

Post-cancer, my body felt unfamiliar… but strength training helped me reclaim trust, power, and confidence one lift at a time. From bench press to squats to deadlifts, every rep is a reminder that healing isn’t just physical — it’s mental and emotional too.

So grateful for Beginning Barbells and the incredible support and guidance from for creating a space where strength is about progress, not perfection. This journey isn’t about the numbers on the bar — it’s about showing up, believing in yourself again, and realizing just how capable you are.

Confidence: unweighable. 💖
Strength: earned.

Sorry, Long post …

A little Captain flamingo update. As you might’ve seen, I stopped taking one of my medication‘s prior to the holidays as I was having
extreme bone pain and was impacting my Quality Of Life.

During the break my bone pain diminished. I would say 98% as well as the neuropathy in my feet. Which ironically I believe was a side effect of the medication I was stopping. And yes, it impacts about 1% of the people on that med.

On January 5. I started my new medication with hopes of less bone pain. So while the bone pain has stay away as well as the neuropathy, I had the crazy situation of blood vessels breaking in my eye. Not knowing the exact cause, and that retnia hemorrhaging is a side effect for the medication my oncologist suggested I stopped taking things I had my eyes checked. She wanted to see how my eye healed and reacted without the medication . Little over four days later, my eye is completely back to normal and the doctor has suggested I resume the medication.💊.

So I just took it in prayers that everything says normal and that nothing else weird happens to this body.

Trying to focus on my weightlifting class, desperately trying to get my eating out of holiday mode and focusing on upcoming events with the family and just enjoying life!

So from the little things to the silly things, do it makes you smile and pray that it makes others smile too!
