A Tribute to Bob Barker! Come on down!

1923 – 2023

Bob Barker was one of the most recognizable figures in Hollywood.

The daytime television host showcased an incredible work ethic on a 35 year run on “The Price is Right!”

He was the longest game show host in U.S. history with 18 Daytime Emmy Awards plus a Lifetime Achievement Award under his belt.

He was described as generous, warm, and compassionate and had a good sense of humor.

He was a well known advocate for Animal Rights.

The bulk of his estate will be donated to 40 non-profit organizations, many of which who help protect animals.

National Sunglasses Day got its start in recent years when it was organized by The Vision Council, which is a nonprofit trade association for those in the optical industry. The day was established to remind people to take good care of the health of their eyes. Our eyes are the windows to the world, and it's essential to cherish them. Protecting your sight is a gift for life.

Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day!

Elder abuse is any act which causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust. The abuser may be their children, grandchildren, their partner, a friend or neighbor.

Age 65 is considered elderly. Research states that elder abuse occurs because of an inability to cope and understand an older person’s care needs, frustration, ignorance or negligence. Sometimes the abuse can begin in earlier years and continues into old age.

Elder abuse can take on many different forms. Abuse can be emotional or psychological, physical, financial exploitation, sexual, neglect or abandonment and medication abuse.
Human rights don’t get old! There is never any excuse for abuse. If you witness elder abuse, please report it by calling the Elder Abuse Hotline: 1-855-500-3537 (ELDR)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follows the service plan to help the client maintain good personal hygiene and maintain a healthful, safe environment, is to perform only those functions specified for each individual client.

Is trained in first aid

Is oriented and trained in all aspects of services to be provided to clients

Is able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training for personal services

Assists and instructs persons at home because of illness, incapacity, or absence of a caretaker relative in managing and maintaining a household, dressing, feeding and incidental household tasks.

Will assist clients with the following activities:

- Housekeeping
- Eating and meal preparation
- Arranging for transportation to and from appointments
- Administering emergency first aid
- Providing or arranging for social interaction
- Providing transportation
- Shopping
- Assisting with paying bills

Reports any change in the client's mental or physical condition or in the home situation to his/her immediate supervisor or Agency Manager.

JOB CONDITIONS:

The ability to drive and the ability to access clients’ homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible are required.

Hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform a physical assessment of the client's condition and to perform client services.

On occasion, may be required to bend, stoop, reach; lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds.

Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing in English; understand and carry out directions and instructions, record messages and keep simple records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent
Must have successfully completed an agency training/orientation and skills competency associated with their role.
Must be in good physical health; free from health problems that may be injurious to client, self and co-workers and must present appropriate evidence to substantiate this.
Must comprehend the basics of housekeeping and meal preparation.
Must understand and respect client’s including ethics and confidentiality of care and have a sympathetic attitude toward providing services for clients at home that have medical problems.
Must have maturity, emotional and mental stability and experience in personal services or homemaking.
Must have a criminal background check.
