Bedtime snacks usually get a bad rap, but new research says that might be a bit unfair. Some snacks can actually be good for you! One study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that grabbing pistachios instead of carb-heavy stuff like crackers or cookies might help your gut and keep your blood sugar steady overnight.

Here’s the scoop: Researchers followed about 50 adults with prediabetes for 12 weeks. Some ate pistachios before bed, others stuck to typical carb snacks. The pistachio group saw more healthy gut bacteria linked to less inflammation and better metabolism. Plus, pistachios have a low glycemic impact and help avoid those annoying overnight blood sugar dips that make mornings rough.

Bottom line: If you like a bedtime snack, no need to quit it—just swap in some pistachios. A handful before bed packs a punch and keeps your gut and blood sugar happy!
