Elias “Doug” Ruschak, 95, a longtime resident of Taylor, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully after spending the last 13 years of his life in Port Orange, Florida.
Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late Elias and Sarah (Kuzman) Ruschak. Doug was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rachel (Winters) Ruschak; his daughter, Barbara; his grandson, James “Jamie” Kowalcik; and his sisters, Sally Savitsky, Annie Shepard, and Helen Benson.
Doug is survived by his loving children: his son, Douglas, of Port Orange, Florida; daughters Diane (Pam), of Port Orange, Florida; and Bonnie (Amy), of The Villages, Florida. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Carrie of Old Forge, Erica of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, and Thomas of Jessup; as well as his great-grandsons, Ryun Valenta of Old Forge and Khalan Ruschak of Surfside Beach, South Carolina. He is further survived by his dear friend, Lynn Finnerty of Ormand Beach, Florida, and his beloved dogs, Skip and Jax.
Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, where he was stationed aboard the USS Massey. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 306. Following his military service, he worked for many years at Preferred Meals in Moosic, Pennsylvania, until his retirement, and worked part-time as a butcher at Engelmyer’s Market in Taylor.
