All of us at The Jacob Davis Funeral Home are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague. Heartfelt condolences to the Zielinski family.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Zielinski, who died peacefully in his sleep at home, surrounded by his loving family, on June,12th. Mike had recently celebrated his 88th birthday and he and his wife Sharon celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on June 8th.
He was the youngest of four children of William and Anna Zielinski and was preceded in death by his siblings Florence Crolick, Theresa Catalano and William Zielinski.
Born on May 18th, Mike was a graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School and a member of the US Navy. He was a hardworking, loyal, and deeply devoted man who spent his life providing for his family and lending a hand to anyone in need. He was known for his strong work ethic.
Throughout his career, he owned and operated a gas station and towing business, later running a successful excavation company, where he took on the unique and humbling task of digging graves — work he approached with dignity and respect. No matter the job, Mike gave it his all.
He had a lifelong love for Corvettes, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and, most of all, his family. Sundays were often spent cheering on his beloved Steelers, with a dog or two by his side. Mike had a soft spot for every family dog that came along and considered them just as much a part of the family as anyone else.
He is survived by his children William (Kathy), Elizabeth Garibaldi, James (Jeanine), Susan (Dan) Snopek; grandchildren Kaitlin Larter (Brett), Michael Zielinski, Lea and Maria Garibaldi, Sydney and Nathan Snopek and 2 great grandchildren along with countless friends and neighbors who will remember his warmth, generosity, and stories of days gone by.
His family finds comfort in knowing he left this world in peace, in the home he loved, held by those who loved him most.
A private service will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike’s memory to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
