Drumming is the heart of our lifeblood as humans and it’s incredibly sad to me that so many in this world may never pick up a drum and play.
I’m so grateful my parents had a drum kit in our garage growing up (rock n roll garage band kid here) and they supported me, along with piano, to start playing snare drum in 5th grade. I was always upstairs in my room rappin on that thing 🥁😜

I continued on with a variety of drums, gong & percussive instruments ever since.
Music is such a gift beyond explanation.
And now when I use my hands on hide to play djembe I can actually feel the neuroplasticity of my brain change - playing rhythms which challenge old engrained pathways, opens new doorways of perception.

Big thanks to drum teacher, Foladé, for sharing & teaching West African patterns so I can expand my mind, open my heart and let the pulse of ancestral intelligence work her magic on my hands & body.

And….My intention is not to copy cat any cultural traditions….it is to pay respect & homage to the vibrancy, wisdom & ingenuity of cultures who’ve made an impact on my personal and spiritual growth. Asè!

::: ANCESTRAL SPIRIT MASK MAKING :::
a communal creativity ritual

SUNDAY 10/12/25
12-4pm

This truly unique experience combines ceremonial aspects of spirit-based art making, creative alchemy practice and healing ritual held in community.

The theme is Masks! 🎭
Masks are an ancient global phenomenon and vehicle for storytelling, mythology and making the unseen, seen.

Masks allow for a transmission of abstract feeling, emotion, and energy to be made in physical form.

In this 4 hr journey we will enter into a liminal, guided, imaginative space through elemental ritual, rhythm, breath, movement and vocal expression to draw forth an Ancestral Spirit that seeks to tell a story through our art.

This is intended to be a structured yet experimental approach to accessing an often overlooked and undervalued aspect of human potential in culture - community ritual healing through creativity & art making.

All supplies provided including snacks and a special herbal tea directly themed to our elemental ritual. No previous experience needed!

Let go of left brain thinking, get a lil weird and transform ordinary items, trinkets, found objects & even what some may consider trash, and alchemize them into a treasure to behold, wear as regalia in storytelling of an ancestral spirit, utilize as an oracle for exploratory diviniation and serve as a timeless altar art piece.

You are welcome to bring anything of particular significance for you personally that you would like to include in your mask making such as small talizman, beads, fabric scraps, etc.

miracles happen when we believe they will.

our power returns when we claim it.

when we decide we are done biting our tongues and holding ourselves back, we find our voice.

our inner child feels safe to dance and play, be loved and seen, and we no longer self betray when we hug them and hold them with our own love and protection.

I have the pleasure and honor to witness miracles happening within my own community and it gives me hope.

These tatuz really are something magickal when we choose to believe so.

“Hold thy Center, No Matter the Weather”

This was our second time connecting and the growth I have had the pleasure to witness is truly amazing!

Our first sit together didn’t actually manifest into a tatu. It looked like to***co & blue lotus supporting a powerful purge, a needed energetic release, a couple hours on the table infused with healing sound, songs & sleep. Mama was tired and needed a real moment with and for herself to reset.

As a very active college athlete with a new baby and so much on her plate, she is a warrior! But Mamas need to be nurtured so that’s what we did.

As a Ceremonial Tatuist it is my job to provide a beautiful marking. It is also my role to observe, intuit, witness, hold space, listen & pull from my diverse medicine bag of tools and many years of experience as a healing artist to determine what is needed in that moment.

It was not yet time for her tatu even tho she had traveled by plane to receive it. The ego wants it. We come up with reasons why we should do it. But if it is all forced or coerced, is it not aligned.

So I made the call.
It was time to do the preliminary healing first.
And it made all the difference.

A year and some change later she came back for the tatu she knew had been waiting patiently for her all along. She is now ready…grounded, clear, settled, supported, and in such a special place of real familial shamanic healing & ancestral gifts coming more and more online to be received.

So proud of the Mamas out there navigating choppy waters, learning to hold their center in all kinds of weather and walking embodied in their truth.
