Good morning Hoosiers! Very few changes have occurred since last night's travel alert update. Here is a look at how things stand as of 6:45am ET here on January 26th 2026.

Rural roads are bad, main highways are either two track or still snow covered, and several reports of crashes and slide offs already have hit our inbox this morning.

Please drive safely if you must be out on the roads today.

Advisory:🟨
The lowest level of local travel advisory, means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid these areas.

Watch:🟧
Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies and other organizations.

Warning:🟥
The highest level of local travel advisory means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a "warning" local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:
Refrain from all travel;
Comply with necessary emergency measures;
Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
Obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers

The difference between a declared State of Emergency and a Travel Warning:

Governor Braun signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency in Indiana. This state of emergency directs IDHS to coordinate all of the state’s emergency response efforts and is an avenue to open additional state resources.

A travel warning is the highest level of county travel status and means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a "warning" travel status, individuals are directed to:

•Refrain from all travel
•Comply with necessary emergency measures
•Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans
•Obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers

The executive order opens up more resources for public safety to assist Hoosiers during this winter storm. Please pay attention to your county travel status, as a travel warning would restrict travel in your community to first responders and emergencies only.

Vigo County is now under a Winter Storm Travel Warning effective 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Sunday through Tuesday morning. All non-emergency travel is strongly discouraged—do not drive unless it is absolutely necessary for an emergency. Heavy snow, blowing snow, and strong winds could create whiteout conditions and dangerous, potentially impassable roads, delaying emergency response and stranding motorists.
