The residents of Bonterra showed up in big numbers today for the Woodlands Dementia Experience and we are so grateful for our time with y'all!

46 people showed up! 46 individuals who chose to lean in, learn, and better understand how to care for the people they love who are living with dementia. That kind of turnout doesn’t just happen… it reflects a community that truly cares.

Your engagement, your thoughtful questions, and your willingness to see the world through a different lens made the Woodlands Dementia Experience so impactful. It’s SO powerful to be in a room full with so much energy and heart!

A special thank you to Len and Wynde for bringing this together and making it all possible!

And to everyone who attended, thank you for showing up in such a meaningful way. The ripple effect of what you learned will be felt far beyond that room.

When you know better, you do better.

We recently heard from a gentleman who attended the Woodlands Dementia Experience, and what he shared truly stayed with us.

After participating in the experience, he said it completely changed how he cares for his wife.

💜 He now approaches her from where she can see him.
💜 He makes sure her food and drink are placed clearly in her field of vision.
💜 He thoughtfully reduces background noise and distractions so she isn’t overwhelmed.
💜 He intentionally “sets the scene” for calm, positive interactions.

The Woodlands Dementia Experience helps people step into the world of someone living with dementia so they can better understand the challenges with sensory processing, communication, and daily tasks. When you understand what the experience feels like, it becomes much easier to respond with patience, compassion, and strategies that truly help.

The Woodlands Dementia Experience is offered as a labor of love by Cassy Eriksson and the team at Woodlands Senior Care, in partnership with Erica Nicole Serrano and the team at At Your Side Home Care.

For all of us involved, dementia is not just a professional focus — it is deeply personal. Each of us has experienced the impact of dementia within our own families, and we understand firsthand how confusing, overwhelming, and heartbreaking the journey can be for both the person living with the disease and those who love them.

Through our professional work - Cassy working to match people living with dementia to the right senior living community and Erica working to match seniors with caregivers for at-home or in-facility care - we have also seen something powerful: when people understand dementia differently, everything changes. Communication improves. Frustration decreases. Compassion grows. Families and caregivers feel more confident and more connected.

The Woodlands Dementia Experience was created to help empower people with a solid foundation of dementia knowledge, give them a deeper understanding of what living with cognitive change can actually feel like through the interactive piece of the event, and then equip them with actionable strategies.

We believe deeply in the idea that when you know better, you can do better. Through this experience, we hope to give families, caregivers, and professionals the insight and tools that can transform how they support those living with dementia.

Understanding dementia changes everything — how we communicate, how we respond, and how supported our loved ones feel. The Woodlands Dementia Experience is a guided, interactive program created to help families and professionals better understand what life with dementia is really like and how to show up with confidence and compassion.

This experience goes beyond facts and definitions. Participants gain insight into how dementia affects perception, processing, and behavior — and why certain approaches reduce frustration while others unintentionally increase it. Many families describe this experience as a turning point in how they relate to and care for their loved one 💜
