Rotavirus is a common viral illness that can cause significant stomach symptoms in young children.
Symptoms usually begin 1โ2 days after exposure and may include watery diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal pain.
While most healthy children recover within 3โ7 days, some can become dehydrated and may require hospitalization.
๐ง Signs of dehydration can include:
โข Dry mouth
โข Fewer wet diapers or urination
โข Fatigue or decreased activity
โข Crying without tears
The good news? The rotavirus vaccine is an oral vaccine that helps protect against rotavirus and can greatly reduce the severity of illness. ๐
If you have questions about the rotavirus vaccine or your childโs symptoms, talk with your pediatrician.
