SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO TODAY…come stroll down memory lane with me. Dave and I went through the toughest event of our lives - our kidney transplant. I can’t believe it has been 17 years! I look back on this day, how scared we both were, the unknown life that was ahead of us, and the hope that we so badly wanted the transplant to work. But it didn’t work. And our story changed in ways we were not ready for.
Along the way we found pockets of joy in the midst of pain, learning to live with a diagnosis that we didn’t want, but one that we had to live with. Those words, written through fear and love, remind me now that life—and the people in it—are treasures not to be taken for granted. They fuel my commitment to advocating for donation, sharing our journey, and loving without reservation.
The road that followed was winding and often painful, as Dave endured over a decade of dialysis, our failed transplant, and setbacks that at times felt insurmountable. Yet through every trial, his spirit remained unbroken, and this became a powerful testament to hope, resilience, and unwavering strength.
Dave’s legacy shines in every sunrise, every breath, and every conversation that carries the message of donation forward. To anyone reading this: if you’ve considered donating—living or otherwise—know this: you have the power to change someone’s story.
RIP Dave, we love you, and we miss you every day!
