Locate everything to the Point of Use! I have often heard managers say, "But they only have to walk 25 feet!" How many times though are they repeating that 2 minute walk? How much production is being lost by having a skilled worker fetching and carrying when a minimum wage worker could be moving what's needed instead of a $50/hour machinist?
