Husband delivers wife's baby while driving her to the hospital

Always interesting to read one of these articles or watch the story as it gets presented on the news. Once again, we have the act of giving birth completely taken from HER. In 2019, we have a female writer for ABC presenting to the world, her perception of what it looks like to give birth in a car.... it’s both offensive and troubling.

South Carolina couple deliver their newborn baby while still driving to the hospital.

feeling nostalgic AF as addy’s birthday approaches. her birth was raw, dirty, loud, bloody and the most beautifully savage experience of my life. all the not knowing, the fear, the surrender. i can smell the hotness of the summer mixed with the cool birth center air like it was hours ago. the sweetness of her tiny body seeping through the metallic fluids around her. i can still feel the safety in everyone’s touch as they held me through her birth. that touch defines me, still. there’s a haze over it but i can still see myself standing there beside the birthing me, naked, covered in dirt wearing a crown of bleeding antlers-setting fire to all of my pain-myself as the crone guiding me through transition, as i transitioned to mother. mother again. it was the me and the her, addy, and every birthing person before me and after me standing there in the fire. feeling her rip through my body was the most horrifyingly beautiful and primal and satisfying and saturated thing i’ve ever felt. i could live in these moments for forever 💜

Recovering From Reality

Podcast Alert! So I’m new to podcasts. I’ve listened to a couple random ones, but don’t quite get the concept. I’ve accepted that they are the modern day radio show. So Alexis Haines is the owner and host of Recovering from Reality. Alexis talked me into coming on her show and I’m so glad I did, it was a lot of fun. Of course I favor the episode I’m in, and it’s all about birth. Check out her other episodes too. 💕

When we begin to peel back the layers it becomes obvious that we're a disconnected society. We see ourselves as separate from the world as a whole, from the people around us, and most importantly from ourselves.

We proudly support and honor Black Breastfeeding week! This post is shamefully late due to me being sick but not forgotten! In our culture black babies are dying at twice the rate of white babies. It’s a reminder that the lack of diversity among lactation consultants needs a new narrative. It’s a time to remember that our non white women tend to fall through the cracks, are invisible and are not given the care and support they deserve. Drawing attention to these facts inspire me to be a better provider to a community of women who need it most. Barriers against breastfeeding are enormous. For women of color, even more so. Educate and celebrate 💕

American women are having too many caesareans, at too much risk

I was thrilled to see this article today, in The Los Angeles Times. As midwives, we are amused to these articles, as these "revelations" are not new found info. It's nice to put these articles out as they surface, to help educate. So once again.. The U.S has too many cesareans. Find a midwife, and demand change for yourself and those we are raising to bring forth the next generation of humanity.

The advent of the electronic fetal monitor coincides with a steep increase in surgical births in the United States.

Birth Becomes Her Cesarean Awareness 2018

No matter how your baby is born, you are a warrior. You are a strong and capable mother who gave birth to your baby. Don’t let any other thought be acceptable. You did it. You grew a tiny human. And delivered her safely into your arms. Don’t forget it.

DNA of every baby born in California is stored. Who has access to it?

Thoughts? With many questions now answered about what happens to your newborn's blood sample, how do you feel about testing now?

For babies born in California after 1983, DNA is likely being stored by the government, may be available to law enforcement and may even be in the hands of outside researchers

Home Birth: Why This Doctor Would Still Choose One - Aviva Romm

This article is one of the best I've seen written about giving birth out of the hospital and the care provided by midwives. Because midwifery laws, education and licensing vary by state, the general perception of midwifery is poor, and we are not respected in the obstetrical community. This article is refreshing to read.

Nearly 30 years ago I gave birth to my first baby at home, followed by three more children via three more home births in the ensuing decade. My four births were beautiful, meaningful, empowering events that supported my smooth transition into natural mothering. Admittedly, this was long before I was...

Stop Anti-Midwifery Bill SB 457 | CFAM - California Families for Access to Midwives - caFamiliesforMidwives.org

CALL TO ACTION:
SB 457 is a Bill that needs the attention of anyone who thinks women have the right to choose their care provider during pregnancy and birth. This bill takes home birth off the table, for anyone living 20 minutes away from a hospital. It requires PERMISSION from a physician to give birth at home, with ANY PRIOR ABDOMINAL SURGERIES. Appendix and Gallbladder are included in abdominal surgeries. Once again, BIRTH RIGHTS, A WOMEN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE HOW SHE GIVES BIRTH, is being threatened. PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS.

Hello CFAM supporter! They're at it again. But we’re not going to take this sitting down. We need you to make phone calls to your California State Senator’s o...

As a part of Black History Month, the Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery is encouraging 100 more mothers to complete this survey.

Did you experience a pregnancy in the US in the last five years?

A new research study for those whose stories have not been heard needs your participation!

If you identify with a community of color please consider sharing your experience.

This is the first national study that includes questions that were created BY people of color FOR people of color. This study allows participants a safe and anonymous way to report their best and worst care, including experiences of discrimination, respect, racism, or equity in care. You can also describe how much access you had to choices for pregnancy and birth care.

Please help spread the word by sharing and tagging friends in the comments here.

Home Birth - Home Birth Videos by Jodie Myers

For those of you who always ask me about twins.. This is a beautiful home birth of one of our own. This mama is a good friend of mine and it was an honor to assist in her birth. We are grateful for Dr. Stuart James Fischbein who makes it possible to attempt a birth of two at home. The state of California has taken away a woman's right to deliver twins at home with a licensed midwife. As a woman, this is appalling to me, that we need permission to chose our birth site and our support system. This birth is special and dear to my heart. Enjoy.

Brock Turner released from jail after serving half of six-month sentence

Besides losing my s**t about Glendale Adventist Hospital fu***ng women over, there is just another little story that slipped into my news and coffee this am. RA**ST BROCK TURNER IS OUT!!! He has served his 2.3 seconds in jail for sexual assault, because sexual assault isn't a big deal according to some male judges. Hear that? Ra**st Brock Turner couldn't be expected to serve his time for assaulting a woman, because the judge in his case agreed with his father that any more time served was "a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action." I'm sorry, did he say "action?" Like the consensual kind??? ACTION. WOW. .

The Stanford University swimmer drew national notoriety after he was convicted of multiple felonies for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman

Glendale Adventist Ignores National Guidelines and Violates Patient Autonomy | ImprovingBirth

THIS IS IMPORTANT. Your rights, my rights, my daughters, and their friends. Your wives. Women's rights are being stripped away at Glendale Adventist Hospital. it's up to US to change this. Dr. Ronald Wu is a brilliant and well respected OBGYN who is one of the VERY FEW OBGYN's LEFT THAT OFFERS VAGINAL BREECH BIRTH in a hospital. He has been an advocate for a women's right to choose for years. Our right to choose is GONE. Glendale Adventist Hospital has banned Dr. Wu from offering breech delivery to his clients. THIS BAN MEANS FORCED CESAREAN BIRTHS. FORCED. No choice. No options. No informed consent. Do you understand? The state of California has already taken away your right to have a licensed and trained midwife attend your breech and twin birth at home. Now the hospitals are taking away your right to have a trained, skilled, licensed provider that offers this choice in a hospital. WE CANNOT ACCEPT THIS.

This. This is a HUGE problem. This woman CHOOSE a trial of labor, the outcome being an unmedicated vaginal delivery. This is the letter her OBGYN sent her. Trinity Women's Health is discontinuing care with her, because she "did not follow directions." She was NON COMPLIANT. She "was a bad girl." So they are washing their hands of her, and will no longer take her as a patient. Anyone else have a story like this???? Because these acts need to be reported. This is how laws get changed. This is what needs to be met with 100% NO.

Long Story Short: I had some growth scans in my 3rd trimester and they estimated that my baby would be large. One of the OBs in my practice suggested a csection which I declined. On April 1st I delivered my beautiful baby boy at 9lb 15oz naturally with no meds. Both he and I are perfectly healthy. But, here is the letter I got from the OB office.
