When the COVID-19 pandemic began, remote work was a fringe benefit at many organizations.

Now, nearly 40% of employees have transitioned to remote working arrangements, according to a survey from Boston Consulting Group.

This signals the new workplace reality: Remote work is here to stay.

Unfortunately, that’s not a welcomed change for many people.

Namely, some employers are concerned about burnout and dwindling employee connections.

Considering that impromptu hallway talks and quick chats after meetings are effectively gone, this sentiment is understandable.

With workers virtually isolated, it can seem like entire teams have been broken up into individual silos, no longer operating in tandem.

The Vision Council reported that more than 70% of Americans don’t know—or don’t believe—that they could suffer from eye strain.

The reality is that most adults are on digital media for about four to six hours each day.

If your job involves working on a computer and you’ve been logging on from home, you may be racking up even more hours than normal in front of a brightly lit screen.

The Vision Council reported that more than 70% of Americans don’t know—or don’t believe—that they could suffer from eye strain.

Primary care physicians have a time deficit.

They have too many patients, so they can’t spend as much quality time with each one to discover the root cause of every issue that walks in the door. They end up shuffling many patients off to specialists instead.

Primary care should be the backbone of our healthcare system, but it’s been damaged.

So, how do we fix the situation?

We’ve already outlined the bulk of the primary care problem in part one, which you can check out here if you haven’t already.

Let’s take a brief look at another issue plaguing our primary healthcare system and then we’ll dive into how we can fix it by means such as lowering the physician-to-patient ratio and using health insurance properly.

Primary care physicians have a time deficit. Rising overhead costs due to the reimbursement system force physicians to take on too many patients.

How does healthcare payment methodology work in light of the four stakeholders of healthcare finance?

How can self-funded employers make the art and science of medicine valuable for themselves and their employees?

We recently interviewed Peter Gallitano, a healthcare executive with an academic background in pre-med and finance and professional experience in the clinical, financial, operative, and tactical components of medical providers.

With regard to gaining value in healthcare, Peter believes all four stakeholders need a system that creates value for themselves and each other.

No stakeholder wants to be the loser in healthcare finance. But the complexity of healthcare could be the seed of the solution not just the root of the problem.

For primary care physicians, time is not on their side.

Once, they had the time to really listen to patients and get to the heart of the issue without needing to run dozens of tests or send the patient on to a specialist.

That kind of time is less common now, and it’s causing serious havoc for doctors and patients alike.

Let’s take a look at an example of two similar patients to spell out the current problem with primary care, so we can look deeper at the cause and effect.

Here’s a look at the problem with primary care that doctors face today.

Remember the golden rule?

Treat others the way that you want to be treated.

It’s a good rule, but a better one might be: “Treat others the way that they want to be treated.”

We all have different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. The way that we want to be treated might not be what someone of a different background would expect or want.

To really promote a healthy, productive work environment, politeness is always a good start, but really looking at cross-cultural sensitivity and making that part of the company culture is an even better place to end.

This is especially true for healthcare professionals.

Here how respect for both patients and peers leads to a better healthcare experience for everyone.

Successful business is all about accountability. Each worker’s individual contributions build on one another and culminate into something greater, to the benefit of the company and its customers.

Conversely, when some individuals struggle with their performance, the entire organization can suffer.

Successful business is all about accountability.
