Feel free to skip, but I wanted to post my thoughts on deities as energy.
I've always thought of worship of deities, especially those I happen to worship, as currents of energy and not physically real people/humanoids/animals/etc.
We feel this energy and are influenced by the current culture. We want this energy to have a name/face/location/etc. We're human, after all. We experience time as a linear path.
In short, if we want to start work with a certain deity, we have to "grab on" to its energy current(s)
