💚 Mental health awareness isn’t just a month, it’s a lifestyle!

As May comes to a close, let’s not forget: our mental well-being deserves attention every single day, not just when it’s trending or highlighted on the calendar.

✨ Keep healing, even on the hard days.

✨ Feel Good Friday ✨

Physical activity is not only good for your body, but it's also great for your mind.

Being active releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good - boosting your self-esteem and helping you concentrate as well as sleep well and feel better.

Benefits include:
- less tension, stress and mental fatigue
- a natural energy boost
- a sense of achievement
- more focus and motivation
- feeling less angry or frustrated
- a healthy appetite
- having fun

It’s even better if you’re able to get active outdoors. Research shows that being in nature can make us feel happier, feel our lives are more worthwhile, and reduce our levels of depression and anxiety.

✨ Therapist Tip Thursday ✨

Self-Soothing Kit/Box

Think of it like a first aid kitbut for your mind and emotions. It’s a personal little toolbox filled with items that bring you calm, comfort, and a sense of safety when life feels overwhelming, stressful, or just too much.

Having a go-to kit you’ve already prepared can make all the difference when life starts life’ing🌧➡️☀️

Here’s how you can build your own Self Soothing Kit/Box:

🧸 Something soft + comforting
A cozy blanket, your favorite hoodie, or even a stuffed animal, anything that helps your body relax.

🎶 A calming playlist
Fill it with songs that soothe your soul or lift your mood. Music is powerful medicine.

🗣 Affirmation cards or kind reminders
Write yourself some gentle truths like:
✨ “I’m safe in this moment.”
✨ “I’ve gotten through hard days before.”
✨ “I don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of love.”

🌀 Fidget tools or sensory items
Putty or a stress ball. Sensory input can help ground you when your brain feels busy or anxious.

📸 Photos or mementos that spark joy
A picture of your best friend, a handwritten note, or a memory that makes you smile.

💧 BONUS: Add a bottle of water, a calming tea, or essential oil. Don’t underestimate how much small comforts can shift your whole nervous system.

🌟Tip: Keep your kit in a box or bag somewhere easy to reach or even create a digital version in your phone with calming videos, saved affirmations, and playlists.

🗨 What’s ONE thing you’d put in your self-soothing kit?

Drop it in the comments — you might inspire someone else. Let’s build our emotional toolboxes together. 💬👇

✨ Therapy Talk Tuesday ✨

Supporting a friend or family member dealing with depression

👂🏽Be willing to listen. Let them know that you want to learn how they feel. Just listening and being understanding can be powerful healing tools.
➕ Give positive reinforcement. People with depression may judge themselves harshly and find fault with everything they do. Remind them about their positive qualities and how much they mean to you and others.
🛟 Offer help. Offer to make a schedule for meals, medicine, physical activity, social support and sleep, and help organize household chores.
⛪️ Urge them to take an active part in their faith, if faith is a part of their life. For many people, faith is an important part of recovery from depression — whether it's taking part in an organized religious community or personal spiritual beliefs and practices.
👯 Make plans together. Ask the person to join you on a walk, see a movie with you, or work with you on a hobby or other activity they enjoyed before. But don't try to force them into doing something.
