May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and for communications professionals, this conversation has never been more important.

Our industry is navigating a complex moment. The expectations to perform, respond, and deliver haven’t slowed — but the pressures have intensified.

In a recent conversation with executive coach Katie Neal, she and PRSAECD Chair, Mark Pompilio explored what she describes as the “one-two punch” of anxiety impacting PR professionals today.

From burnout and blurred work-life boundaries to the evolving role of AI and shifting job expectations, the challenges are real — and increasingly interconnected.

One insight that stands out: burnout isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s often the result of sustained high performance without the systems or support to make it sustainable.
