Consider this a fair warning.

Early intervention of symptoms is KEY šŸ‘Œ

We see it up close and personal and see it every single day in DROVES since launching The Joss District.

This is seriously 9... 1... 1.

Don't believe us?

šŸ‘‡šŸšØ Ohio is now on alert šŸšØšŸ‘‡

Just got this email about a new mental health resource launching here.

And listen... we're glad Ohio is doing SOMETHING.

But if this is our BIG plan to address the youth mental health crisis… 😢

A phone line for crisis psychiatry consults once a child is already spiraling?

We’ve missed the point.

Here's the breakdown in the Buckeye state:

• 18% of Ohio high schoolers reported seriously considering attempting su***de
• 9% of high schoolers have already attempted su***de
• Half of middle schoolers don’t feel like they can talk to anyone about their feelings

And our response?
Put out the fire once it’s already šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

But what if we asked why the fire started in the first place?

What if we stopped throwing meds and therapy at kids without asking what’s driving the inflammation, the dysregulation, and the overload to begin with?!?!

That’s what we’re doing at The Joss District and guess what we're finding?

🌱 The Gaps:

• Brain inflammation
• Gut-brain dysfunction
• Mold, metals, chemical toxicity, PANS, PANDAS
• Food allergies, birth trauma, EMF sensitivities, sleep issues, screens/sensory challenges, airway blockage, visual processing issues, and methylation problems to just name a few.

A LOT of kids aren’t just depressed or anxious.

Many are inflamed, overloaded, and dysregulated and they’re not getting evaluated for ANY of that.

We’re flipping the model.

Why?

Because our founder went through this first hand and saw the need to blow up the system and start OVER because many providers ONLY wanted to throw an antidepressant at her then seven year old - which by the way - has a BLACK BOX warning for... 🄁🄁🄁... suicidal ideations.

Do you know what her daughter did end up having?

An infection in her gut, mold exposure, Lyme, and genetic methylation issues.

What needs to change?

āœ”ļø Testing and root cause mapping up front
āœ”ļø No more waiting 6–12 months for a specialist
āœ”ļø Funding options to bridge the gap
āœ”ļø A network of providers that actually believes recovery is possible and sees a pill as a tool not the overall solution.

Because kids don’t need more šŸ’Š

They need someone to ask better questions.

This is what rebuilding pediatric wellness looks like.
And we're just getting started over here 🌱

Our kids need us getting out of the šŸ“¦... STAT.

Their lives are only on the line... literally, folks.

A lot of kids don't have mental health problems.

They have health issues pushing mental health symptoms.

Need help figuring out the difference?

Infections like strep, mono, COVID, flu, pneumonia, and Lyme can trigger mental health and behavioral changes in children. This is PANS/PANDAS.

🧠 When properly diagnosed and treated, symptoms resolve. However, many cases are missed, misdiagnosed, or misunderstood.

šŸ“£ Learn. Share. Spread the word. Together, we can change the course of mental health — one child at a time. What steps will you take to help raise awareness?

05/21/2025

Some of your kids don’t truly have anxiety or depression.

🚨 They are inflamed.
🚨 They are overloaded.
🚨 Their body is toxic.

It’s not just hormones, behavior, or burnout.
It’s mold. It’s gut health. It’s their environment.

Root causes matter. And they’re showing up in their symptoms.

If you, your kids, or loved ones are having flares... mold could be at the corešŸ‘‡

I would say 75% of The Joss District clients have had positive mycotoxin test results to date 🤯🤯🤯

Mold has been around longer than us.

HOWEVER... mold is impacting more people—especially kids—than ever before.

Here’s why:

ā˜€ļø Climate Change: More floods and moisture = more mold-friendly environments.

šŸ  Airtight Homes: Modern building practices trap humidity and reduce airflow, giving mold the perfect conditions to thrive.

šŸ‘¶šŸ¼ Vulnerable Kids: Today’s children are being born pre-polluted—with toxins already in their systems from the womb. Add mold, chemicals, poor air, processed food, and EMFs—and their bodies just can’t keep up like previous generations.

šŸ’» EMF Exposure: Emerging research shows that EMFs (from Wi-Fi, devices, and smart tech) may actually stimulate mold growth. And now? EMFs are everywhere—schools, homes, even cribs.

This isn’t just a mold problem. It’s a total load problem. And our kids are carrying the weight.

Mental Health Awareness Month | A Call for Curiosity, Not Controversy

We’re living through a silent epidemic.

āž”ļø Neurodevelopmental disorders are drastically rising.
āž”ļø Mental health struggles are escalating.
āž”ļø And su***de is now the SECOND leading cause of death in kids ages 9–24 (CDC).

This is no longer just a genetic issue.
It’s environmental. And it’s urgent 🚨

Parents are overwhelmed. Providers are divided. And kids are caught in the middle.

That’s why and his new book, Between a Shot and a Hard Place, is so incredibly important right now.

It doesn’t push an agenda = it invites a conversation šŸ‘Œ

It offers balance, data, and clarity in one of the most emotionally charged topics of our time: childhood šŸ’‰

You don’t have to agree on everything to believe this:
Every stone must be turned over. Every contributing factor deserves a closer look šŸ•µļøā€ā™€ļø

Ask me how I know.........

šŸ’‰ injury turned our šŸŒŽ upside down.

My kids deserved better. So do yours.

šŸ—£ļø Is Our Education System Failing Kids with ADHD?

Let’s be honest...
We’ve overdiagnosed, overmedicated, and misunderstood a generation of kids.

āš ļø ADHD isn’t a behavior problem āš ļø

It’s often a reflection of genetics, environment, and unmet needs.

We’ve created systems that punish movement, require silence, and label kids as ā€œdisruptiveā€ for not conforming to a rigid šŸ“¦.

But what if the problem isn’t the child?

What if it’s the system?

In Toledo, options like Summit Academy, New Horizons Academy, and Toledo Christian hybrid homeschool model are offering something different—flexibility, understanding, and support.

Because here’s the truth:
šŸ‘‰ When we adjust the environment...
šŸ‘‰ Support the nervous system...
šŸ‘‰ Address inflammation...
šŸ‘‰ Rethink diet and toxic load...

These kids CAN thrive ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

They are often our most creative, intuitive, out-of-the-box thinkers 🌟

But we’ve prohibited their brilliance by trying to force them to fit a mold that was never built for them 🫤

And just because we were all forced to attend a traditional school model…

DOES NOT mean it’s what’s right for our kids now.
We have options. And we should USE them ✊

It’s time to stop medicalizing the child—and start redesigning the systems.

Do you think our schools are truly built for the way kids learn today? Or are we overdue for something better?

✨ Mental Health Awareness Month | Day 15 ✨

My son was struggling last year šŸ§’šŸ¼

Reading was hard. Focus was harder.

We found out through a vision assessment, his eyes weren’t tracking correctly.

His 🧠 was struggling to process what he saw.

Here’s what most people don’t know:

šŸ‘€ is more than seeing 20/20.

It’s:

🌟 Binocular vision
Can both eyes work together as a team?

🌟Tracking
Can the eyes move smoothly across a page or shift from the board to the desk?

🌟 Convergence
Can they maintain focus as something moves closer?

🌟 Visual processing
Can the brain make sense of what the eyes see?

🌟 Health issues
Can gut-brain imbalances, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies and even chronic infections impair how the eyes work together?

When these systems are off, kids may seem unfocused, avoidant, emotional, or even defiant.

But really—they’re overwhelmed 🤯

These visual processing issues are often misdiagnosed as ADHD, dyslexia, or anxiety.

But with the right supports—like vision therapy, OT, and neurodevelopmental care—things can change.

šŸ—£ļø What causes visual processing and binocular vision issues?

1. Neurological immaturity
The eyes are an extension of the brain. If the nervous system is underdeveloped—due to birth trauma, retained reflexes, or developmental delays—the eyes may not work together properly.

2. Premature birth or birth trauma
Premature infants or those who experienced a difficult birth (cord issues, vacuum delivery, C-section) often have disruptions in sensory and brain development that impact visual coordination.

3. Chronic inflammation
Conditions like PANS/PANDAS, mold toxicity, or chronic infections can inflame parts of the brain involved in motor control and visual processing (like the cerebellum and brainstem).

4. Head injury or concussion
Even mild head injuries can disrupt the brain’s visual centers, affecting tracking, focus, and convergence.

5. Nutrient deficiencies
Deficiencies in omega-3s, B vitamins (especially B12), magnesium, and zinc can affect the visual system and nerve function.

6. Screen exposure & lack of movement
Too much time indoors and on screens—and not enough crawling, climbing, and active play—can lead to underdeveloped visual-motor skills and depth perception.

7. Unresolved primitive reflexes
Retained reflexes like the Moro or ATNR can interfere with head, neck, and eye coordination—making it difficult for the eyes to track smoothly or work together.

šŸ‘‰ Behavior is communication.
Let’s listen with more than our eyes.

Let’s stop labeling kids before we really look at what’s going on.

If your kids are constantly sick and you’re constantly missing work… hear me out as we embrace — Day 11.

And yes... we’re going there.

Parasites 🪱

I know, I know… it sounds weird. Gross, even.
But when it comes to chronic mood swings, meltdowns, and mystery symptoms, the root cause isn’t always in your child’s head, it’s often in their gut.

Literally.

At The Joss District, we help parents uncover hidden root causes, connect the dots, and support their child’s wellness journey with compassion and clarity.

Weird symptoms welcome šŸ˜‰
We mean that.

05/12/2025

And PANS and PANDAS are a BIG reason why they're not ok...

I’ve seen inside the gates of hell.
That’s what PANS and PANDAS can do to a child—and to a family.

People tell me I’ve changed.
That maybe I should lighten up a little.
But there is no "lightening up" when you’ve watched your child disappear right in front of you.
When terror, rage, confusion, and despair take over your home.

When you’re living with PANS or PANDAS—you can lose everything. Your friends. Your career. Your sense of normal. Your entire life can unravel. And when doctors dismiss you, you’re not just unsupported—you’re left to fight in the dark, completely alone.

But I wasn’t alone.
But... God.
He met me in the fire. He lit the way when no one else could.
And by His grace, we kept going.

But now that we're in remission, I'm on a mission. Because too many are still stuck in the gates of hell. It's why I'm doubling down.
On awareness.
On resources.
On treatment.
On the fight for families who are still stuck in the šŸ”„.

Because this isn’t just illness... it’s a living death.
And families stay trapped for far too long.

By the grace of God, we were brought out.
We have seen healing.
We have experienced it.

And now it’s time for more families to have access to that hope. To be a part of a clinic that can help families help their child and family.

So no, I won’t lighten up.
Not when more children are being swallowed by this every single day.

🚨 Not when the risk is death 🚨

Not when su***de is the 2nd leading cause of death in kids (CDC) and no one is connecting the dots on why.

This can happen to... anyone.

We need more soldiers on the front lines.
Fighting for kids.
Standing with parents.
Pulling families out of the flames.

Glory to God for the healing we’ve seen.
But the battle is not over...

The Joss District was born from personal experience. After years of navigating misdiagnoses, dead ends, and overwhelming fear, I knew something had to change šŸ‘‰ not just for my child, but for countless others. That’s what led me back to school, to train in functional wellness and root-cause approaches that every family deserves access to.

Now, at The Joss District, we’re rewriting the story of childhood health. Through advanced functional testing, personalized care plans, and real, root-focused strategies, we help families uncover what’s driving their child’s symptoms—and how to move forward. Whether it’s inflammation, infections, environmental stressors, or nutrient imbalances, we guide families with clarity, compassion, and next steps.

This isn’t just care—it’s a movement to reclaim wellness for our kids and restore hope for families who’ve been in the dark too long. Transformation is possible. And we’re here to help make it happen.

Mental Health Awareness Month ✨✨✨

May is Lyme Disease and Mental Health Awareness Month—a crucial time to spotlight the connection between tick-borne infections and neuropsychiatric conditions like PANS and PANDAS.
Lyme disease and co-infections such as Bartonella and Babesia can trigger or exacerbate PANS/PANDAS symptoms, leading to an onset of anxiety, OCD, tics, and behavioral changes in children and young adults. At the Look. Foundation we emphasize the importance of identifying and treating underlying infections to support healing. By raising awareness and providing resources, we aim to assist families in navigating these complex conditions.
šŸ” Look for Root Causes
Understanding the link between Lyme disease and PANS/PANDAS is vital for effective treatment. Early detection and comprehensive care can make a significant difference in outcomes.

✨ Mental Health Awareness Month ✨

When we see depression, anxiety, or ADHD symptoms, it’s not always a disorder.

āš ļø Sometimes, it’s a depletion āš ļø

We don’t talk enough about how modern life is draining our kids of the nutrients their brains need to function.

Deficiencies in iron, B12, zinc, magnesium, and omega-3s can mimic depression, anxiety, and ADHD... but why are they low?

Here are a few root reasons:

• SAD diets (highly processed, low nutrient)
• Low stomach acid = poor absorption
• Leaky gut & food sensitivities
• Blood sugar crashes
• Chronic stress
• Toxic load (mold, metals, chemicals)

And it gets worse:

šŸ“¢ Many common meds drain these nutrients further šŸ“¢

• Stimulants can stress the adrenals
• SSRIs can deplete B12 and folate (methylation)
• Acid blockers block B12, iron, zinc
• Birth control can deplete B6, B12, and folate
• Antibiotics wipe out gut flora and B vitamins

It’s a double hit: depleted going in, depleted even more through treatment.

This isn’t about blame.

šŸ—£ļø It's about biochemistry.

You can’t medicate your way out of a nutrient deficiency.

Mental Health Awareness Month = Day #4

What if it’s not ā€œjustā€ bipolar? What if it’s inflammation?

Many children are misdiagnosed with psychiatric conditions... when in reality, their symptoms may be driven by immune dysfunction or inflammation.

One overlooked root cause?

Toxic load 🪣

Mold, heavy metals, plastics, pesticides, adjuvants, and everyday chemicals can cross the blood-brain barrier, inflame the brain, and mimic everything from OCD to depression to mood disorders. In a developing brain, the impact can be even more profound.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s look deeper.

Sometimes the answer isn’t another diagnosis—it’s uncovering the root.

"What The Health Is Going On?"...

Keep an eye out for an upcoming webinar version of this talk that will delve into how parents can gain a better understanding of functional wellness for their children, the importance of informed consent, and the significance of prioritizing biological interventions in chronic health conditions.

Traditionally, pediatric care has approached developmental and behavioral challenges from the outside in—focusing first on structure (such as physical therapy), sensory interventions (like occupational therapy), and social-emotional support (such as counseling). While these therapies are invaluable, they often fall short when the child’s biological foundation is unstable.

At The Joss District, we take the opposite approach. We start with the biology first, addressing:

āœ… Nutritional deficiencies that impact brain function, immune health, and emotional regulation.
āœ… Toxin overload from food, environment, and personal care products that may be interfering with development.
āœ… Gut health and microbiome balance, which are deeply connected to neurological function and immune response.
āœ… Genetic factors that influence detoxification, metabolism, and inflammation—helping us create truly personalized treatment plans.

This foundational-first approach can lead to better, longer-lasting outcomes because the body is now prepared to receive and integrate those therapies more effectively.
