I am often asked what is my top recommendation for improved health outcomes. This answer is easy, cut out pro-inflammatory seed oils and fats (aka "vegetable oils" including canola, soybean, cottonseed, corn, safflower, sunflower oil and margarine, Crisco and any hydrogenated oils). These are found everywhere - in the majority of processed snacks, baked goods, frozen foods, salad dressings and mayonnaise. They are even in many organic products and those found at stores such as Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. These industrial fats have an extremely unfavorable omega-3 : omega-6 fatty acid ratio which results in excess inflammation (in other words - pain and disease). Replace these with fats our ancestors would have recognized, including butter, ghee, beef tallow, duck fat, unrefined coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. For more information check out the article linked below and for a deeper dive, read "The Big Fat Surprise" by Nina Teicholz (this one covers the historical narrative - why government agencies have been touting traditional saturated fats as the culprits behind heart disease).

Industrial seed oils can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, autoimmunity, and many more chronic health conditions. Find out what you should eat instead.

This video offers a glimpse into the fascinating topic of breath. It's astonishing how breathing properly can have such a impact on our physiology, sleep, anxiety levels and even the way our faces develop. For a deeper dive, check out "Breath" by James Nestor. The FCA is a skillset that allows Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners to assess imbalances and deficiencies within the body and address the following questions for each client:

▫️Is there a functional deficiency?▫️What particular nutrient will work for that client?
▫️When is the client sufficient?

These questions enable the practitioner to create personalized, bio-individual recommendations that are uniquely tailored for each client. Each test assesses a specific organ or system for imbalance, allowing the practitioner to communicate with the client's body to identify potential root causes behind the symptoms or concerns presented.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) provides shopping guides which enable consumers to make educated decisions on which produce items to spend extra on for organic. These guides rank the pesticide contamination of 47 popular fruits and vegetables, based on test results of more than 43,000 samples of produce. It is important to note that the samples are tested for pesticides after they have been prepared to be eaten. This means the produce has been thoroughly washed and, when applicable, peeled. After these preparations, pesticide residues are still detected on many of the fruits and veggies.

For years I've relied on these shopping guides along with the Skin Deep cosmetic database for checking toxicity scores of thousands of products. There is a wealth of helpful resources on their website (EWG.org) and they also offer a handy app for your phone.

Nutritional Therapy is food, supplement and lifestyle consultation specific to your bio-individual needs. This evidence-based approach compiles information from food journals, a detailed questionnaire, non-invasive hands-on Functional Clinical Assessments (FCA), and a biofeedback tool called Lingual-Neuro Testing (LNT). In some circumstances, functional labs may be recommended as well.

We work from a foundation of nutrient-dense whole foods and utilize the therapeutic effects of quality natural supplementation to achieve and maintain improved health. Our approach is based on solid scientific research while also honoring experiential ancestral wisdom and the innate intelligence of the body. We create a systematic series of short term and long-term goals, evaluating your progress along the way and offering lots of guidance and support.

Nutritional Therapy Practitioners do not diagnose, treat or cure. Instead, we focus on holistic, comprehensive and personalized approaches to health.

Hi! Thanks for visiting my page...

I’m Sarah, a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), bookworm and mother of one. While I’ve always had an interest in nutrition, my transition to motherhood is really what deepened my love for holistic nutrition and respect for ancestral wisdom. My constant reading, research and podcast-listening led me to the FNTP program offered by the Nutritional Therapy Association which has opened doors for further training in this field. Conventional allopathic medicine didn’t provide lasting solutions for my husband’s and my health challenges. Thanks to the knowledge and tools gained from this education, we were able to improve our quality of life drastically.

My family members and clients have experienced profound benefits by listening to and supporting their bodies with nutrient-dense whole foods, lifestyle adjustments and detoxification protocols. I truly love guiding and empowering others in their own healing journeys and would be happy to speak to you about yours during a free discovery call.
