TOMORROW — Friday, December 5, 2025
Yakama Nation Public Community Health welcomes all our relatives who use substances — daily, occasionally, recreationally, housed or unhoused — to a safe, private, and judgment-free space for support, education, and resources.

We know overdose can happen anywhere, even in working family homes. Many of our unhoused relatives already know about Narcan and safer use practices, but some of our relatives who use only once in a while may not have access to the same information.
This event is for ALL of our people who use — no matter your situation.

This December, we’re talking about mental wellness.
The winter months can bring shorter days, colder nights, and heavier hearts. Feeling low, tired, or disconnected during this time is common and normal—you are not alone in experiencing these feelings.

Some of these experiences may be Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that tends to happen in fall and winter. SAD happens because reduced sunlight can affect brain chemicals like serotonin and melatonin, which influence mood, energy, and sleep.

Important to know:

Feeling low doesn’t mean you are weak. Depression and SAD are medical conditions—not a personal flaw.

Symptoms can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or life circumstances.

Talking about mental health and sharing how you feel is healthy and normal, not something to be ashamed of.

💛 It’s okay to feel this way—and it’s okay to reach out for help. Seeking support shows strength. Yakama Nation Public Community Health is here to provide care, resources, and guidance for our community.

Healing takes time, patience, and courage.
No one’s path looks the same — and that’s okay. Every small step counts: choosing water over soda, taking a walk, getting a checkup, saying “no” when you need to rest.

Be proud of the progress you’ve made, even if it feels small. You’re doing good work for yourself and your circle.

As we enter the holiday season, we know this time of year can bring up many emotions. For some, it’s a time of gratitude and connection — for others, it can feel heavy with grief, stress, or major life changes. If you’re missing someone, navigating hard family dynamics, or simply not feeling your best, you’re not alone. Your feelings are valid.

A few gentle reminders:
• Take moments for yourself — breathe, walk, pray, pause.
• Honor your boundaries. You can say no or step away.
• Let joy and sadness coexist.
• Reach out to someone you trust if things feel heavy.

For some, the holidays can also trigger anxiety or panic attacks. These are real physical responses, not something someone can “snap out of.”

Common signs include: racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, shaking, dizziness, chest tightness, or feeling disconnected.

If someone is experiencing an anxiety attack:
• Stay calm and reassure them they’re safe.
• Encourage slow breathing.
• Try grounding (5 things you see, 4 feel, 3 hear, 2 smell, 1 taste).
• Move to a quieter space and offer water.
• Avoid saying “calm down” — just be present.

If anxiety is frequent, reaching out to a healthcare provider or counselor can help.
Our hearts are with you this season. Whether you’re surrounded by family, grieving, coping with change, or finding peace on your own — your healing matters. Be gentle with yourself.
