Stimulate natural health with an individ I was seen by many physicians and specialists. Jean

Prior to receiving a Masters degree in Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly the Traditional Acupuncture Institute) in Columbia, Maryland in 2000, I was working as a Physician Assistant. I had graduated from Essex Community college with a Physician Assistant Certificate in 1992 and worked primarily in an outpatient setting seeing patients with a wide variety of i

llnesses. I enjoyed my work and loved the connection that I had with my patients. Long hours of work re-aggravated a back injury sustained in a car accident years before. The usual tests and therapies were completed, yet no treatment or therapy seemed to relieve my symptoms. One of my friends suggested acupuncture, and as a last ditch effort, I decided to give it a try. I have to say that acupuncture completely changed my life. With regular visits, my back pain resolved within 6 months. For the first time in years I was pain free. However, other aspects of my life changed as well. I was happier and less stressed. My friends and family noticed how much more relaxed and easy going I had become. To this day, I continue to use acupuncture to maintain my health and well being. Back to that first life changing acupuncture visit and why we are here now at East to West Medicine. During the visit, we talked about my injury, the pain, and its effect on my life. We also discussed my life, my career, and where I saw myself in the future. My pain and injury were significant, and so were the other aspects of my life. Each aspect affected the other. My acupuncturist was interested in treating all of me: body, mind, and spirit. I felt cared for and tended. It was during this visit, that I realized that something was missing in the way I practiced medicine as a physician assistant. What was missing was the human holistic approach. I wanted my patients to experience the care and tending that I received during my acupuncture treatments. I wanted to be able to treat the whole person, not just symptoms. This is an exciting time for me as I relaunch my full time acupuncture practice. My current approach to health care is holistic, emphasizing the patient’s overall well being. I recognize that many factors affect health, including exercise, diet, rest, environment and heredity. I practice whole-person health care with the vision to see the human body as much more than the sum of its parts. I see my clients as more than people coming to my office with a set of symptoms. My vision encompasses the entire individual in all of his or her unique complexity, and I work in partnership with my clients to ensure optimal health and wellness in all facets of their lives. Acupuncture focuses on maintaining optimal health naturally so that the body is better able to resist disease. Through identifying the root cause of your symptom or illness and then addressing the imbalance in a way that works naturally with your body, acupuncture seeks to restore optimum health so the body’s natural healing mechanisms can take over. I would love to be your guide, working in partnership, as you take back your health and life. Call me at 410-984-3700 and we can discuss how acupuncture can serve you in your quest for health and well-being. Schedule an appointment today! Wishing you health in body, mind, and spirit.

Acupuncture and Tinnitus

Acupuncture and Tinnitus: What’s the Connection?
If you’re experiencing tinnitus—the persistent ringing, buzzing, or humming in your ears—you know how it can impact your sleep, concentration, and overall quality of life. While conventional
treatments may not be effective for everyone, acupuncture offers a natural, drug-free alternative
that many people are exploring for relief.

How Acupuncture May Help with Tinnitus

Acupuncture, a gentle technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, involves placing ultra-thin needles at specific points on the body to restore balance and enhance well-being. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat imbalances in the body—and more recently, it's been studied for its effects on tinnitus. Here’s how it may help:
Here’s how acupuncture may help with tinnitus:

• Neuromodulation: Acupuncture may help calm overactive nerves and rebalance activity in the
brain’s auditory centers, potentially easing the sensation of ringing or buzzing.
• Stress Relief & Better Sleep: Tinnitus is often accompanied by stress, anxiety, and insomnia,
which can exacerbate symptoms. Acupuncture helps regulate stress hormones, promoting relaxation
and deeper sleep.
• Improved Circulation: Targeting specific acupuncture points may increase blood flow to the ear and surrounding areas, supporting healing and reducing inflammation.

In Summary: Acupuncture
• Improves circulation to the ears and head, which may support hearing function.
• Calms the nervous system, helping reduce the intensity of ringing or buzzing.
• Lowers stress and anxiety, which are known to make tinnitus worse.
• May balance the body’s energy (Qi) in ways that help reduce symptoms over time.

🧘‍♂‍ Is Acupuncture Right for You?

If stress, poor sleep, or nervous system imbalances are contributing to your tinnitus—or if you’re
seeking a natural option that supports your body’s healing—acupuncture may be a valuable addition to your care plan. Most people find the experience relaxing, and many feel a sense of calm after just one session. Regular sessions over several weeks usually offer the best results and long-term benefits.

Summertime and Five Element Acupuncture:
Summertime is associated with the Fire Element. This is the character for the fire element

Stoke Your Inner Fire – A Summer Invitation from Five Element Acupuncture

Close your eyes and picture this: You're deep in the woods on a warm summer day. Sunlight filters through the trees. You hear the steady hum of bees and the distant chirp of crickets. You breathe in the earthy scent of pine and blooming wildflowers. The air kisses your skin with that perfect golden warmth. How do you feel?
Now, think back to your last bonfire night. Remember the glow of the flames, the crackle of wood, the laughter of friends, and the cozy feeling of being wrapped in connection? That’s Fire energy in full swing — and it's the heartbeat of Summer.

Summer is nature's grand finale — the peak of growth, bloom, buzz, and beauty. The sun is blazing, the plants are bursting open, and the forest is practically singing with life. And because we’re not separate from nature, we’re doing the same — glowing, growing, reaching out.
In Five Element Acupuncture, Summer is ruled by the Fire Element. Fire brings warmth, joy, passion, connection, and love. It's the sparkle in your eyes when you're with people you care about, the belly laugh that bubbles up out of nowhere, and the deep feeling of yes, this is who I am.

Fire also governs some pretty vital parts of you:
❤️ Your Heart, the keeper of your spirit and joy.
🌀 Your Small Intestine, the master of sorting what serves you from what doesn’t.
🛡️ Your Pericardium, the heart’s bodyguard, letting in love and keeping out the bad vibes.
🔥 And your Triple Warmer, the behind-the-scenes energy manager making sure your body’s heat and vitality are flowing just right.
When your Fire is shining bright, you feel alive, connected, expressive, and open to love and joy. But if Fire gets dimmed or off-kilter, things can feel... off. You might feel lonely, anxious, shy, confused, or disconnected. You may even experience insomnia, heart palpitations, or just a blah lack of sparkle.
But here's the good news: Summer is the perfect time to tune up your Fire and let your spirit shine!

🌟 Here are 3 playful ways to rekindle your Fire:
1. DANCE IT OUT – Crank your favorite song and move like no one’s watching. Sing out loud. Dance barefoot in your kitchen or under the stars. There’s a saying from Zimbabwe: “If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance.” Yes. You. Can.

2. LAUGH LOUDLY – Watch a ridiculous comedy. Share silly memes. Tell a dumb joke (the cornier, the better). Laughter is Fire medicine — and it’s highly contagious!
3. CAMPFIRE + S’MORES = MAGIC – Invite your favorite people, spark a fire, toast marshmallows, and swap stories under the stars. (Bonus points for singing camp songs!)

And of course, if you’re feeling like your inner Fire could use a little acupuncture support, this is exactly the time to come in for your Summer session. Whether you’re a regular or new to Five Element Acupuncture, Summer treatments help keep your joy flowing, your connections thriving, and your spirit shining.

Know someone who might love this? Share the glow — forward this newsletter to a friend who could use a little Summer spark.
Let’s keep the Fire burning bright. 🔥
With warmth, joy, and s’mores.

Need a deeper reset? Acupuncture can help get your inner Fire flowing again 🔥

My little shaky leaf on the tree of knowledge…

Don't be afraid of the world…Let the world be afraid of you.
Don't be afraid of the wind…It only blows to cool you down.
Don't be afraid of the rain… because without it you wouldn't grow.
Don't be afraid of the heat as you have an entire tree to protect you.
You are part of something much bigger than yourself.

My little shaky leaf don't be afraid of the seasons…
They are what change your colors.
My little shaky leaf…You must hold on with everything that you have.
Let the veins of your interior explode with power and rage for life.
You are not alone…

We are all shaking.

And one day we all will fall.
But my dear, you are a fighter and I believe in you.
I always have and I always will.
And when you fall, you must know that you will fertilize the soil and grow again.

My little shaky leaf on the tree of knowledge…
You are wiser and prettier, and more confident and stronger than you'll ever know.
You are the soloist in the symphony of leaves.
When you vibrate you send the purest music to the world.

You are the electric orange in the fall.
You are the delicate flower that blooms in the summer and sings to the bees You are alive, breathing, resilient, destined for greatness…
Don't ever forget that…my little shaky leaf
