As adults what can we do in today's hectic environment to help our kids survive the everyday stresses they are exposed to like competitiveness in school, social media, bullying, and peer pressure.
"Just Breathe" is a new book by Mallika Chopra (daughter of wellness advocate and author Dr. Deepak Chopra) which teaches kids how to relax through meditation.
Many adults feel intimidated or uncomfortable just sitting still and trying to clear their minds. Mallika tries to break that barrier by explaining that meditation also includes things like walking, deep breathing, and being conscious of your surroundings in the moment.
Remember,-- stress happens. Take a break and go from a reactive response to a reflective one. As a parent, don't force your kids to meditate. Instead, just introduce it by perhaps going for a family walk or saying something you're grateful for today at the dinner table.
Mallika believes meditation helps you become more empathetic and compassionate toward others by giving you the opportunity for self-reflection.
But how can we get our kids to start meditating? We need to teach by example. If you want your children to do it, start the practice yourself.
Studies have shown that teaching mindful practices can build student attentiveness, respect for others, and self-control while reducing stress and hyperactive behavior.
This is a great opportunity for communities to create a meditation class with grandparents and grandchildren as well as other family members. Most importantly is to walk the talk and practice it yourself
