Preparing for my lessons and studies with Team 52 of ICYER, Dr. Ananda stated in his most recent video that "When your responsibility and your activity, your dharma and your karma, go hand in hand, they become one and at that moment, you are living a perfectly yogic life!

The very first paragraph of Lesson Eight: Inner and Outer Yoga states: The physical practices of Yoga should go hand in hand with the development of the higher or inner phases of Yoga consciousness, so that all of the practices ad processes of Yoga, limiting within themselves, become an integrated activity uniting body, emotions and mind with the Higher Nature.

We are embracing changes and planning for the future.The trainings for 2021 and 2022 are open for registration - there are many ways to participate and take a 200hr or 300hr training!

Immersion and weekend programs will adjust and accomodate for covid safety protocols - numbers of participants will be limited based upon the location, and cleaning and food preparations will follow recommended guidelines. And we are all becoming very adept at this new world on online yoga! We are offering several variations of the online trainings - weekend and weekday meeting times - to meet live online, and even to participate in person if nearby the host teachers locations.

Sharing a post from who shared, goes hand in hand with my video today.

From a beloved colleague, Ann Ronayne and the GT Region Action Council's healing team.

Here are some things to keep in mind over the next few days. Many of us have had heightened levels of adrenaline and stress hormones running through our systems for varying lengths of time. Our bodies and brains have been primed for fight or flight, and have adjusted to that state. The "sudden" removal of the stressor (the election) can bring on physical and emotional symptoms that may not make sense. Some of the more common ones are:

Seemingly random intense emotion (sadness, anger, lethargy)

A strong urge to be with/talk to people (more than typical)

A strong urge to isolate (more than typical)

Physical exhaustion

Muscle soreness

Lack of or increased appetite

Cravings for specific foods or drinks

Some of these symptoms can cause distress because they feel out of context. The battle is won, the evil is vanquished and so we "should" be happy and relieved. Though uncomfortable, it is completely normal to feel "off" as we come down from a place of high stress. Here are some things that we can do to alleviate the symptoms and help our bodies and brains normalize their chemistry:

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Water, juice, Gatorade. Even if we don't feel thirsty our bodies need the hydration to settle and heal. Stay away from alcohol and caffeine for a while.

Honor food cravings
Cravings can be a signal from our intuition that some vitamin or mineral is depleted. See if having a bit of what you're craving helps.

Honor the desire to be with, or away from, people.
Forcing ourselves to extra when we want to intra, or vice versa, just keeps the stress high.

Write, sing, play your instruments. Color, draw, glue different color pieces of paper to cardboard. Give the non-verbal parts of your psyche the chance to express itself.

Ask for help
If our feelings don't lessen in a week or so, we might need help getting back in balance. Posting here can be a great way to get started getting the support and care that we need.

With over 20 years of combined experience, Terri McDermott, ERYT-500, continues to pursue an active interdisciplinary career in health and wellness through the teachings and study of holistic care, meditation and yoga.

Education in Health, Wellness and Yoga

A Michigan native, Terri received her C.M.A. in Medical Assistance through training provided in Royal Oak, Michigan and her RYT 200 through Jenny Lintvedt, Yoga Teacher Trainer in Traverse City, Michigan. Throughout her continued studies and employment in this area, Terri has taken further trainings with known teachers such as Sean Corn, Joe Barnett, Kathryn Buddig, Dr. James Lawrence and recently completed her RYT 500 through studies with Mugs McConnell in a 300-hour program over the course of 2019-2020 and is currently on faculty as a Lead Teacher Trainer for South Okanagon Yoga Academy.
