This is what fills me up ❤️. The 200YTT, although all online, has been amazing. I love what I do and am so grateful for the opportunities life holds.

Saucha, the 1st of the Niyamas. Saucha literally means purity, cleanliness and clarity. It refers to purity of mind, speech and body. It is an attitude or purity of mind and behaviors.

I'd love to have you join me as we study this topic further and move into the surrendering practice of yin tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM.

Please register in advance for this class to obtain the Meeting ID and Password in a separate email:

So we begin another 200YTT today! Excited for these teachings.

Aparigraha, the 5th of the Yamas. Aparigraha teaches us the to let go of the things we do not need. The things in our life created by jealousy, by greed, by possessing that which is behyond what we need to move through this life on the path to peace.
I'd love to have you join me tomorrow as we study this topic further and move into the surrendering practice of yin tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM.

We are waiting for YOU! Hope you can join us. Private message me if I can help you get registered. I am so excited about this online opportunity.

Sometimes delays are wonderful opportunities🌻 The USA 200hr online teacher training (meeting live in EST) that was set to start today will now be beginning next Monday, Sept 14. Here is your opportunity to jump in last minute!! You wont even miss a beat, and you'll be off on a grand adventure!
https://www.soyayoga.com/product/learn-to-teach-yoga-online/

In fact, you can definitely join for either of the just-starting online trainings (we have one meeting live in PST that started this weekend) for at least the next couple weeks - the joys of online means you can get caught up with the recordings!

Another beautiful post to thank Chava for!

Dear God,
On this day I ask You to grant this request:
May I know who I am and what I am,
Every moment of every day.
May I be a catalyst for light and love,
And bring inspiration to those whose eyes I meet.
May I have the strength to stand tall in the face of conflict,
And the courage to speak my voice, even when I'm scared.
May I have the humility to follow my heart,
And the passion to live my soul's desires.
May I seek to know the highest truth
And dismiss the gravitational pull of my lower self.
May I embrace and love the totality of myself,
My darkness as well as my light.
May I be brave enough to hear my heart,
To let it soften so that I may gracefully
Choose faith over fear.
Today is my day to surrender anything that stands
Between the sacredness of my humanity and my divinity.
May I be drenched in my Holiness
And engulfed by Your love.
May all else melt away.
And so it is.

- Debbie Ford

THE VAGUS NERVE

A seemingly never-ending branching nerve that connects most of our major organs to our brain 🧠.

It’s the longest cranial nerve in our body, one for the right side and one for the left. And is largely responsible for the #mindbody connection for its role as a mediator between thinking and feeling, you know our “gut feeling.”

The vagus nerve is the “queen” of the parasympathetic nervous system. The “rest and digest” or the #chillout nerve. So the more we do things to activate the #vagus nerve (like deep #breathing), the most we combat the effects of its opposer, the sympathetic nervous system - the “fight or flight”, rushing around, have to do something, #stress releasing one.

A few other functions of the vagus nerve, just to name a few:
▪️slows your heart rate and respiration.
▪️lowers blood pressure.
▪️helps with calmness and relaxation.
▪️controls involuntary muscles in the digestive system, therefore, aiding digestion.
▪️taste sensation.
▪️movement function for the muscles in the neck responsible for swallowing and speech.
▪️gut-brain communication.
▪️reduces inflammation.

Sometimes when the dreariness creeps in and darkness prevails, it’s for a reason. Contemplate these gentle reminders of all you are blessed with and find the beauty within the contemplation. The messages are hidden in the smallest of places and often times, bring light into our heart ❤️

I love to see clearly!

When I see clearly, I recognize the beauty and wonder in the trees and the flowers, and I feel the sense of awe that the wonder causes in me.

When I see clearly, I recognize the fears that other people feel when they deal with the rest of the world, and I stop judging them based on misperceptions.

When I see clearly, I recognize that the things that seem negative in my life also have their positive sides, and when I look more closely I see that those positive sides are stronger than what I see as negative.

When I see clearly, I recognize that the actions of other people that seem to be rude and obnoxious usually are a cry for attention, and I can help those people by giving them some needed attention, though not necessarily on their terms.

When I see clearly, I recognize that my world is an eternal world of spirit, and that all the things that are happening in life now will pass like the breeze, while the eternal part of myself will go on no matter what I have or don’t have.

When I see clearly, I recognize that I won’t always see the results of my actions, and that I need to let go of my need to see those results if I want to foster my own peace of mind and spirit.

When I see clearly, I recognize that I am a part of a community of people that are interconnected and interdependent, and that I need to be an active part of that community on the level that best suits who I am.

When I see clearly, I recognize that the fresh air, the blue or cloudy skies, the sunshine and the snow, the winds and the rains, are all gifts that maintain the precarious balance of this beautiful planet on which we live.

When I see clearly, I recognize that other people aren’t necessarily wrong just because I don’t agree with them, and that there may be something important to learn from the people who disagree with me the most.

When I see clearly, I recognize the fact that I’m a very special person who has very special gifts, and that I’m just as deserving of my respect and love as anyone else is.

When I see clearly, I recognize that the mistakes that I and others make are part of being human, are part of the need to learn through experience, and should be dealt with accordingly and not judged harshly. Some learn more slowly than others, and thus will make more mistakes.

When I see clearly, I recognize my need to be me, to be true to me, and to be the best me I possibly can be. I have a responsibility to the other people in this world to do to others as I would have done to me, to speak to others as I would be spoken to, to give more than I would receive.

When I see clearly, I recognize that the world is a beautiful place full of wonders, that I am a beautiful person full of potential, and that each person around me is beautiful and loving and doing his or her best to make the best of life.....

The Fit Pit

So last Friday something very exciting happened... I passed my 300 hour written exam for yoga through SOYA 🙌 last year I found a deeper passion for yoga and decided to head to Puerto Rico to take the 200 hour yoga teacher training class, it has been so beautiful learning the philosophy and bringing yoga into my life and sharing my knowledge with many others. I am excited for the adventures ahead 🧘‍♀️ I can't thank my teachers enough, the wonderful Mugs McConnell and Terri McDermott are a wealth of experience & knowledge and both are beyond amazing. Thank you both for scooping me up and taking me under your wings 🙏 I look forward to becoming SOYA faculty and teaching Mugs' beautiful curriculum alongside Terri McDermott this fall.

Tao & Zen

"Each of us may have views that we hold on to and consider to be the truth, and we are attached to those views. But if you get caught in your views, then you have no chance to progress.

Most of the time, our head is so full of thoughts that we have no space to listen to ourselves or anyone else.

We may have learned from our parents or in school that we have to remember lots of things, we have to retain a lot of words, notions, and concepts; and we think that this mental stockpile is useful for our life.

But then when we try to have a genuine conversation with someone, we find it difficult to hear and understand the other person. Silence allows for deep listening and mindful response, the keys to full and honest communication."

God's Smile

"I have begun visualizing myself cradled in God's hands, soothed by God's infinite love. I have also invented a new game for myself, called God's Smile. As my point of concentration, I imagine the presence of God's pleasure; when I am distracted and in my own world, I soon notice the absence of this transcendental smile and quickly sharpen my point of concentration until it has returned. This has been extraordinarily effective."

About Terri

With over 20 years of combined experience, Terri McDermott, ERYT-500, continues to pursue an active interdisciplinary career in health and wellness through the teachings and study of holistic care, meditation and yoga.

Education in Health, Wellness and Yoga

A Michigan native, Terri received her C.M.A. in Medical Assistance through training provided in Royal Oak, Michigan and her RYT 200 through Jenny Lintvedt, Yoga Teacher Trainer in Traverse City, Michigan. Throughout her continued studies and employment in this area, Terri has taken further trainings with known teachers such as Sean Corn, Joe Barnett, Kathryn Buddig, Dr. James Lawrence and recently completed her RYT 500 through studies with Mugs McConnell in a 300-hour program over the course of 2019-2020 and is currently on faculty as a Lead Teacher Trainer for South Okanagon Yoga Academy.

Personal Training & Wellness Programs

Terri understands the importance of incorporating wellness into all aspects of life and works with her private clients to create balance. This includes developing mastery of one’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being through various disciplines and healing modalities such as deep stretching, breathing, core work, meditation, reflection, nutrition, stress management and wellness coaching. She is an Ambassador for Divine Warrior Goddess Trainings and has been successful in facilitating these trainings to numerous women throughout Traverse City, Michigan. She feels there is great work to be done in bringing together women and reminding them of the skills they inherently possess and removing those layers and restrictions society has imposed so there is movement forward with their life’s work.

Her work at the Cowell Family Cancer Center increased her passion for working with individuals overcoming illness and fear has helped her in her own life by driving her further into studies in multiple areas of healing.

She currently divides her time in Traverse City, Michigan teaching and working privately, as well as, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Passion for Wellness and Community

As a child, the seed for yoga was planted when Terri attended her first yoga classes in a fellow elementary school student’s basement learning yoga from a dedicated mom. That seed took root and continues to grow strong. As she continued on her journey, those roots reached out, took her on a path of spiritual growth, and coaxed within her the need to continue to learn about the intricacies of the human body, our vessel in this life, the mind and spirit.

She currently serves as a board member for the organization, Yoga Alliance, Arlington, VA and continues to find ways to bring her teachings to her communities, both in Florida and Michigan. An annual retreat “Pura Vida Yoga Retreat” is provided and taught by her in Costa Rica always attempting to immerse a larger group to the concepts of yoga, meditation, pranayama and self-study.

Founder of Svastha and Peaceful Poses

Terri has been practicing yoga throughout her life and teaching yoga since 2012. She is the founder of Svastha and Peaceful Poses, whose mission is to teach the incorporation of wellness concepts, yoga and meditation into the daily lives and build daily routines with her students. She teaches multiple types of classes such as Restorative, Yin, Detox, Hot and Gentle yoga, SUP, along with meditation, and leads multiple workshops and facilitates groups of women in her communities fostering a tribe of sorts who grow and learn together. She specializes in one on one teaching and coaching based on client needs and creating individualized plans for students to include all aspects of wellness.
