It's that time of year. We have heard of the first fawn report of 2023.
Time for the Spring Baby 2023 PSA:
FAWNS:
Does leave their fawns alone for long periods of time. This helps keep predators away from their baby. They are watching from a distance. If you see a fawn all by itself, leave it where it is and CALL US before doing anything. We will talk you through the specific situation. Each situation is unique. Then follow our instructions!
We all have the same goal of doing what's best for the animal in question.
BUNNIES:
Baby bunnies show up in the darnedest places! They only need a shallow depression. Could be in the yard, could be in flower planter on your deck or under the slide at preschool.
Mom bunnies also leave their young alone for very long periods. If you find a nest of baby bunnies, CALL US before doing anything. We will talk you through your situation.
TURTLES:
Turtles are starting to move about, crossing roads and starting to lay eggs on the shoulders of roads. SLOW DOWN! If you see a turtle in the road and want to help it across make sure you can do so safely being aware of traffic. Move it across the road in the direction it was heading. For snapping turtles you can use a shovel to scoop them up or use the floor mat from your car to slide under it allowing you then to pull it across the road without having to pick it up.
