Our 2nd annual trip to the Festival of Lights! Emery was mesmerized by the lights. Seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child is seriously the best! 💕

Last year was our first annual friends camping trip. We were 5+ years into praying for a baby and 1.5 years into our adoption journey. We told our friends at the end of the camping trip that we were hopeful that this year (2021) we would have our baby home with us. While we were expecting that to be through adoption, God clearly had other plans. However, our prayers to have a baby this year were answered, in a way better than we could have ever imagined.

This year our camping trip is one we will never forget. The severe weather, lots of rain and mud, ditching camp not once but twice because of the storm/tornado warnings, lots of laughs with friends and amazing memories made. But most importantly, because we got to take our sweet baby girl this year.

Let me tell you, camping with a 7 week old is not for the faint of heart, but it’s a week we will forever remember and cherish because God answers prayers in ways better than we can ever imagine! 🥰

As we reflect on the last year or so, we realized how much our plans can change. In a year of so much uncertainty and upheaval, we had to learn to adapt and “get used to different” (as our sweatshirts say in the family picture).

Looking back over the last 6 years as we tried to add children to our families, we had many different plans. We saw countless doctors and had so much blood work and testing done. We saw many of our friends and family members get pregnant and have little ones. We kept wondering why. What was the purpose of us going through this uncertainty and heartache? We “gave up” on pregnancy and started our adoption journey (although adoption was never a plan B for us!). With every “I’m sorry, she chose a different family,” we wondered if adoption was even the right path. We began to wonder if we would ever have children that we could call our own.

Then came 2020. The year that was hard in so many ways for so many people. But it was the year that God again reminded us that our plans are not His plans. It was the year that we were planning on adopting. But God had a different plan for us, and almost 6 years after our journey to have children of our own began, we found out we were pregnant.

So, our adoption plans are put on hold for now and we are soaking in the pregnancy, as we learn more to trust in God and His plans/timing and not our own.

We certainly don’t know what the future holds, but we are so glad we know and can trust in the One who holds the future! ♥️
