At Basecamp for Veterans, the work goes beyond the arena.

With the guidance of experienced facilitators, veterans and their families partner with horses to build trust, develop real skills, and strengthen resilience in a way that lasts.

It’s not just about the time spent here, it’s about what they carry forward.

If you believe in this kind of work, you’re part of the BCI family.

A moment from not too long ago.

What’s built here doesn’t stay in one place or one week, the BCI family continues long after the program ends.

From participants to supporters, this community keeps showing up, staying connected, and carrying the work forward and it’s still growing!

The desert is starting to heat up!

For the horses, that means more than just higher temperatures, it means paying closer attention. Hydration, recovery, and timing all start to matter a little more this time of year.

It’s a good reminder that small adjustments go a long way, for them and for us.

As we head into the hotter months, preparation makes all the difference.

There’s something powerful about earning the trust of a horse that’s never known it.

At Basecamp for Veterans, our program brings together veterans, their families, and untouched horses in a hands-on experience built on patience, consistency, and leadership. No shortcuts, just real work, real connection, and real growth.

The horses don’t respond to force, they respond to feel. And in that process, something starts to shift on both sides of the lead rope.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this kind of experience, we encourage you to reach out.

What a week at BCI actually looks like.

Basecamp for Veterans is a week-long program where veterans and their families work with untamed horses, learning how to slow down, stay present, and build something real with an animal that won’t fake it.

It’s hands-on. It’s consistent. And it asks a lot from the people who show up.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this kind of program, reach out.

Why Horses

Interacting with horses can offer individuals an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, mentally and physically. This can be particularly powerful for veterans who are facing the challenges associated with readjusting to life at home. We believe that individuals who have served our country, who understand what it means to push themselves past unpredictable thresholds, are uniquely capable of appreciating the patience, mental diligence and physical resourcefulness that is required to work with horses, and that an opportunity to do so can offer a valuable alternative path of societal reintegration.
