We’ll be at the Okie Homesteading Expo this weekend, but if I’m being honest — I’m just as excited to be there learning as I am working.

I’ve followed RuthAnn Zimmerman’s old-order Mennonite wisdom for a long time now… the way she shares simple, faithful living has taught me so much. It’s the kind of knowledge that brings you back to what actually matters.
And getting to sit in her classes in person both days… is such a huge blessing to me.
Because really — this is what it’s all about, right?
Learning as you go.
Sharing wisdom.
Leaning back into the way God created things to work together — simple, intentional, rooted.

And yes… I’ll absolutely be slipping over to that chicken processing demonstration too 😅🐓

In the middle of all of that, we’ll be there with the same tallow-based body care we started making for our own families — now something we get to share with you.

We’re excited to share that The Rooted Willow has a new spot at Carlton Landing this season. Carlton Landing Foundation

What started as two homeschool moms making clean, nourishing skincare for our own families has grown into something we now get to share with communities we love.

We believe in simple ingredients, traditional methods, and skincare that truly supports healthy skin. Our products are handcrafted with tallow and thoughtfully chosen ingredients to create body care that’s both clean and effective.

Honey & Oats has officially joined our soap collection, and is currently curing. It will be ready in a couple weeks time.

This bar was created with sensitive skin in mind and is made without essential oils or added fragrance. The soft, warm scent comes naturally from the honey and oats themselves — comforting, familiar, and gentle.
Made with locally sourced, grass-fed tallow, this soap produces a creamy lather that cleans gently while supporting the skin’s natural balance. Honey is naturally humectant, helping the skin retain moisture and leaving skin feeling soft and cared for. Finely ground oats are well known for their soothing properties and are often used to help calm dry, itchy, or easily irritated skin. Together, they create a nourishing bar that feels simple, thoughtful, and easy to reach for every day.

Currently curring and ready in a few weeks: Orange and Turmeric Tallow Soap

This bar is made with locally sourced, grass-fed tallow that we render in house. Tallow closely resembles the natural oils in our skin, which allows it to cleanse effectively without leaving skin feeling stripped or dry. It produces a creamy, stable lather and is especially supportive for dry, sensitive, or easily irritated skin.
We use sweet orange essential oil for its clean, bright citrus note and its gentle clarifying properties. It brings a fresh, uplifting scent without being overpowering and works well for everyday use.
Turmeric has a long history of use in skin care for supporting calm, balanced skin. It’s rich in antioxidants and is often chosen for skin dealing with redness or uneven tone. In this bar, turmeric also gives a warm, natural color — no dyes or artificial colorants.
Together, these ingredients create a well-balanced soap that cleans thoroughly while still being gentle on the skin, improving in performance as it cures.

Our kids see everything.
And apparently, this is how they think it looks when we’re working 😂
Wild hair. Tired eyes. And if it were possible, we’d apparently just grow grinder hands and skip the equipment altogether.
This little drawing actually isn’t far off from real life. When we say we render tallow in-house, we mean all of it. We source local suet, bring it home, grind it ourselves, and render it here. Not bought online. Not pre-done. No shortcuts, no outsourcing—just us doing the work (and looking a little unhinged while doing it).
It’s messy work. It takes time. It’s loud, repetitive, and usually done with suet on our aprons, and hair doing its own thing. It’s definitely not the polished version people imagine when they think of handmade products.
But our kids see the process. They see the effort behind the finished jars and bars. They see that the work matters, even when it’s hard or inconvenient or a little chaotic.
So yes—crazy hair, real work, and all.
That’s just how it’s done around here.

We’re back!
Oh what fun we had during Christmas. After a season of shipping orders, pouring love into wholesale work, and enjoying a slow winter hibernation, it’s time for us to step back out into the world.
This Saturday, we’re so excited to be back in the community—sharing what we love most: handcrafted, small-batch, tallow-based body care made the old-fashioned way. From locally sourced suet that we render in-house, to thoughtfully chosen ingredients and intentional care in every batch, these products are made to truly nourish skin the way it was designed to be nourished.
