Not sure if you should have a physical therapy or occupational therapy evaluation for your child? Let’s help clear up the differences👇🏼

PHYSICAL THERAPY: In PT we focus mainly on gross motor activities. Think walking to the bathroom, stepping into the shower, sitting on the toilet. PT helps you get from point to point.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY: When you get to the bathroom what do you need to do? Unzip your pants, brush your teeth, wash your hair. OT focuses on daily living activities that require fine motor control.

If your kiddo isn’t hitting their developmental milestones and you have concerns, get with your pediatrician and request an evaluation with us here at A Step Ahead Pediatric Therapy! We can help you determine which therapy is best for your kiddo and start services to get them well on their way to progress 🤩

VitalStim is an effective treatment for our kiddos who have difficulty swallowing. Our certified VitalStim therapist places electrodes over the target swallowing muscles which then allows for those muscles to be taught how to work effectively, while also remapping the swallow function in the brain.

All of the fine motor focus in OT!

Occupational therapy is important to develop daily living skills. It may look like all fun and games, and it is 😏, but each game or fun activity is focused on addressing fine motor skills that will benefit in tasks like writing, buttoning, zipping, etc.
