Tiles, strategy, and great company.

A full table, plenty of laughs, and a game that keeps minds engaged and friendships growing. Mahjong brings everyone to the table, and we love seeing it.

It has definitely become our favorite ways to connect.

Tomorrow is the first day of spring, and after this past weekend, we are ready for it!

Bring on longer days, warmer sunshine, and fresh air!

Tomorrow is going to be a great day to:
• Take a short walk and soak up the sunshine
• Open the windows and let the fresh air in
• Start a small plant or flower pot
• Sit outside with a coffee, tea, or a good chat

Scrabble is one of those games that’s fun and good for you. It works word recall, memory, focus, and strategy, and it keeps the brain engaged without feeling like “exercise.”

The best part is the connection it creates. Great conversation, a few laughs, and just enough friendly competition to make it interesting.

Are you finding it more difficult than it used to be to get a good night’s sleep? Well, you’re not alone. Around 46% of older adults report having trouble falling asleep at night.

A few things that can help:
Practice gentle yoga stretches.
Studies have shown that yoga may help improve sleep quality. It helps ease tension in the body’s pressure points and helps relieve sore muscles.

Journaling.
Journaling is a great way to clear the mind and prepare for rest. For example, writing down things to be grateful for or a positive event that happened that day, etc.

Lathering up with lotion.
According to research, putting the same lotion on each night, you start associating the smell of that lotion with sleeping, plus it helps nourish the skin. Using a calming lotion like lavender, chamomile, or rose is an extra benefit.

Listening to calming music.
Adults 65 to 83 years old who had trouble sleeping were asked to listen to 45 minutes of relaxing music at bedtime for three weeks. The data shows that it helped significantly to improve their sleep.

Read a good book.
The act of reading is thought to be a stress reducer since your mind can be distracted by a good book. It’s recommended that you use a paperback book rather than an e-book because the blue light may keep the brain awake.

We are keeping the theme of women going! Yesterday we posted about National Women’s Day and now...

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the women who have shaped history, culture, and society. It has been officially observed every March in the United States since 1987.

We get to see the impact of women up close every day through our residents, team members and families. Thank you for the strength, wisdom, and heart you bring to this community.
