Kelly Gorton RN

How long have you been at Jenks?
I am completing my 9th year at Jenks and my 19th year as a nurse!

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience?
Before becoming a school nurse, I worked in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), specializing in post-CABG (open heart surgery), valve repair/replacement, heart failure, and post-cardiac arrest patients. I also worked in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), supporting patients following major abdominal, thoracic, and trauma surgeries with a focus on hemodynamic stabilization and early mobilization. Lastly, I monitored and recovered patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia, pain control, airway management, and rapid identification of post-op complications.

If you could be anything other than a nurse or health assistant, what would you be?
If I weren’t a nurse, I’d be tearing it up as a hip hop dancer—or surrounded by furry friends at my own animal rescue. One fuels my love for 90's hip hop/rap music and the other my compassion for animals in need.

What is your favorite food? Sushi all day every day!

Why do you like working at Jenks?
I love being a high school nurse because it combines clinical care with connection. Teenagers are navigating so much—academics, mental health, relationships, and identity. Being there for them, not just in emergencies but as a steady, supportive presence, is incredibly rewarding.

Amber Rogers RN

How long have you been at Jenks? I am finishing my 6th year at Jenks HS

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience? My previous experience is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St John in Tulsa, OK

If you could be anything other than be a nurse or health assistant, what you be? Stay at home Mom, Travel Agent or open my own Coffee Shop! 🙂

What is your favorite food? My favorite food is probably cheese and crackers! Or anything that would make a great charcuterie board!

Why do you like working at Jenks? I love working with my team at the high school! It truly is a blessing to work alongside some of my greatest friends! I also love being a part of the student’s journey at the secondary level. It is so rewarding to see their growth from freshman year to their senior year! Being just a small part of making their day a little easier is worth it to me!

Robyn Crawford

How long have you been at Jenks?
I’ve been with Jenks for two years now, working as a Health Assistant in the nurse’s office. It’s been a great experience supporting the health of both students and staff, and being part of such a dedicated and caring team.

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience?
Prior to joining Jenks, I worked as a Medical Assistant at an internal medicine practice, where I gained a strong foundation in patient care, clinical procedures, and collaboration with healthcare professionals. I now bring that experience to my role as a Health Assistant at Jenks High School.

If you could be anything other than a nurse or health assistant, what would you be?
If I weren’t working in healthcare, I would likely pursue a career in photography. I’ve always been passionate about capturing meaningful moments and expressing my creativity through the lens of a camera. I’m especially drawn to exploring a variety of genres, including landscapes, portraits, events, and street photography.

What is your favorite food?
Mexican food is definitely my favorite; I love the rich, bold flavors.

Why do you like working at Jenks?
Working in the nurse’s office at Jenks High School is truly rewarding. It allows me to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of both students and staff. Providing care and support to those in need brings a deep sense of fulfillment, and I’m grateful to be part of such a welcoming and collaborative school community.

How long have you been at Jenks? It's been a long, wonderful journey~ I started subbing for Jenks back in 1999. After about 4 years I took a reading sufficiency role, then I spent time as a TA and worked in the media center at JEE. I also served as a para for a while, each role teaching me something new and meaningful. In 2016, I found my place at JWI in the clinic, and it truly feels like home. I've completely fallen in love with the work I do and the people I get to share it with every day.

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience? I spent 10 years working as an LPN in critical care before choosing to stay home to raise my children ~ a dream come true.

If you could be anything other than be a nurse or health assistant, what would you be? I would be a teacher or a hairstylist.

What is your favorite food? All of it LOL! It is a toss up between steak and Mexican food.

Why do you like working at Jenks? Kids are the best~ where else can you get glitter in your hair, unsolicited hugs, and life advice from a 11-year-old all before lunch? I'm beyond lucky to work with the most amazing crew, and Julie? She's not just my coworker~ she's my partner-in-crime, chaos coordinator, and snack-time strategist. We've got this teamwork thing down to an art form...with a splash of coffee and a lot of laughter.

Julie Virdell RN

How long have you been at Jenks? I am completing my 8th year as the site nurse at Jenks West Intermediate.

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience? Prior to nursing, I spent many years in small business office management with a bachelor's degree in marketing and management. I became involved with an orthopedic group that helped guide my next direction. I went back to school in 2009 to pursue my nursing career. I got my bachelor's degree in science of nursing in 2010. I spent 5 years in the cardiac units of Saint Francis, followed by health coaching and pre-operative nursing. My close friend who is a teacher suggested I look into school nursing; I did, and I am still here!!

If you could be anything other than be a nurse or health assistant, what you be? I would be happiest as a stay-at-home dog mom, with lots of dogs!!! But since I have to work, I do love being a nurse and especially have enjoyed the experience and support of school nursing and this site--JWI!

What is your favorite food? I am not a picky eater and will try most things, except oysters and crawfish!! But I love Mexican food the most; with chips and salsa and tacos being my most favorite. A good medium rare steak is close second, with a big baked potato!!

Why do you like working at Jenks? Jenks is a leader in education and widely sought after for education of students and employment of staff. I am proud to represent Jenks in a positive way. JPS and JWI offers a friendly, appreciative and encouraging environment to be a part of. Everyone is courteous and respectful of each other and their position; I feel like I have the support of our staff as the site nurse. I love working with Ann and we have become great friends at work and in our personal lives. All of the nurses in our district are dedicated to providing the best care and education to all of our students and staff.

How long have you been at Jenks? I have been the Health Assistant at JEI for two years now. I have spent many years volunteering in my kids' elementary classrooms and chaperoning trips with the band during their high school years.

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience? Before coming to work at JEI, I was a stay-at-home mom for 17 years. While I do not have previous nursing experience, I feel that raising two daughters has equipped me with helping children with their health needs.

If you could be anything other than be a nurse or health assistant, what would you be? I have always thought it might be fun to be a dental hygienist.

What is your favorite food? I love Mexican food, especially some fresh salsa and queso.

Why do you like working at Jenks? I love working alongside Jill and learning new skills in the Nurse's office. Coming to work for Jenks has been a wonderful experience as a Mom returning to work. I love that every day is something new and exciting.

Jill Curry RN

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience? Prior to school Nursing I was a NICU nurse at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, NICU nurse at St. John Medical Center (10 years), and also worked at Avalon Park Pediatrics.

If you could be anything other than be a nurse or health assistant, what you be? I would probably be a Meteorologist! I love the weather and am always on high alert during storms. You can always count on me to know the weather forecast for our area. 🙂

What is your favorite food? I love Sushi, steak, and creme brulé!

Why do you like working at Jenks? I was a Jenks lifer so my Jenks roots run deep. Fun fact... I am currently the nurse at the site where I attended 6th-8th grade and my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Harris, works here! I love this school district and feel thankful that my kids attend this district and I also get to work here. Jenks has always been a top-notch leader in public schools for our State and the health services department is no exception. I love school nursing because it allows me to use my brain in creative ways and I love getting to know students and establishing relationships with them. I hope that our clinic is a safe space for students!

Please give a shout out to the amazing Health Services Staff at West Elementary Building F! We are so thankful for Lorna Spencer RN and Emily Miller (Health Assistant) and appreciate everything they do to keep our students healthy! You are amazing!!!!

Lorna Spencer has been with JPS for eleven years. She has spent her entire career working with children from premature infants to adolescents. She began her career in Chicago where she worked until her family moved to Tulsa in 2001. She enjoys working with students in the clinic at JWE, building F, caring for them so that they can quickly get back to learning. She especially enjoys working with students and families to manage chronic health conditions so that students can be successful in the classroom. Outside of the clinic she enjoys reading, quilting and spending time with family and friends.

Emily Miller: This is my second year working as a Health Assistant at JWE. I've volunteered and subbed throughout the district for the last 15 years. I have three kids of my own ranging from 14 to 19 years old and love working with the elementary age group. In a former life, I was in HR Management for over 20 years. I have absolutely loved this new adventure! I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with our students every day and help them with their health needs.

How long have you been at Jenks? I started in August 2024, almost one school year!
What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience? I previously worked as an elementary school nurse for three and a half years. Before that, I did home visiting and clinic work in Mexico and Honduras.
If you could be anything other than be a nurse or health assistant, what you be? If I were to be anything other than a nurse, I would be a social worker or counselor.
What is your favorite food? I like Thai food, a good noodle dish and tea.
Why do you like working at Jenks? My favorite part about working at Jenks is the community, it's truly supportive. In my experience, staff go above and beyond to help students succeed.

Get to know Laura:

I have been the Health Assistant at Jenks West Elementary since November 2023.Before this position I have spent the last 15 years volunteering, subbing , tutoring etc at West. Let's give a shoutout to Brooke Beguin RN for her incredible dedication and care at Southeast Elementary! 💙 Her unwavering commitment to patient care and her warm, compassionate attitude make her a true healthcare hero. Thank you for all you do! 🙌

How long have you been at Jenks?
This is my 5th year at Jenks Southeast.

What is your previous nursing/healthcare experience?
I have been an RN for 15 years. I was a Pediatric ICU nurse at El Paso Children's Hospital and Dell Children's Medical Center before we moved back home to Tulsa. I was also an ECMO specialist while at DCMC. I worked at St. Francis Children's Hospital in the Children's Float Pool before I started at JSE.

If you could be anything other than being a nurse, what would you be?
A detective, sometimes I feel like my job entails more investigation skills than patient care 🤣

What is your favorite food?
I love to teach about balanced diets and making sure our bodies have a rainbow of fruits and vegetables - but some days call for chips and queso 😝

Why do you like working at Jenks?
Working in the PICU, you would see the sickest of the sick kiddos, and they would get better and discharge from the hospital and it would make your heart so happy, but a little piece of it would walk out with them when they discharged. Here at Jenks, I love getting to see students every day and helping them along their health / academic journey. From the students with chronic conditions that I help every day, to helping in emergency medical situations, to giving a hug and an ice pack to a pre k student who took a tumble, and even just building up students by giving house team points for something you see them doing in the hallway - everyday looks different, and I walk away with a grateful heart of the new perspective each student gives me. To see the world from an elementary student's eyes is such a blessing - and especially when it comes to medical situations. Kids are capable of so much more then we give them credit for. Sometimes they just need a little extra teaching or different way of thinking about how to take care of themselves, and once they realize it - they take off and strive to be independent - it is an honor to help them along the way. I am thankful to work in a district that celebrates our diverse population and prides itself in making sure each student is taken care of, no matter their medical need.

Let’s do another Health Services staff introduction/appreciation post on this cold snowy day❄️☃️

Becky Tyler has been the nurse at Northwest Elementary for 7 years! She came to the school with 46 years experience as a nurse 👏 Her experience includes post-op, plastic surgery, home health, OU Health Clinic, dermatology, insurance, Internal Medicine and a non-profit nursing agency! Wow! Becky has truly done it all!

If she was not a nurse, she would love to be a book editor and travel agent so she could read books while being on a trip! 📕📚✈️

Her favorite food is Tex Mex!

Becky loves working at Jenks because she feels like a lifer since her 3 children all attended JPS and she thinks it is the best district in the state. Is she wrong? We don’t think so!!!!

Please show Becky some appreciation! We are so thankful to have her as part of our team and are very thankful for eveything she does for staff and students! 😷🩺
