At Modern Village Midwifery, we seek to serve women and families throughout their childbearing years, and beyond, providing holistic, compassionate care catered to each family's unique needs and desires, helping to educate and guide them through making informed decisions about their care. We strongly believe that where, how, and with whom a birth takes place is incredibly significant. The way a woman and her family are treated throughout the course of the childbearing year matters. Thus, we do all that we can honor this influential time and to provide a gentle, peaceful, respectful birth experience for all of our clients.

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Theodore Lee Watts!!! Born February 17, 7lb 2oz, he surprised us all by deciding to join us a couple weeks sooner than anyone expected! Elizabeth did amazing powering through a fast and intense labor, and welcoming sweet Teddy into her hands. It was such an honor to bear witness to her power and strength as she transformed from midwife to mother. Welcome to the village little one! We love you already! 📷:

One of our most frequently asked questions at consultations is “what do the midwives bring to births?” As we we were doing some restocking, it seemed like great opportunity to show instead of tell! We each carry a wide variety of equipment including…

✨ doppler to monitor baby’s heart rate (waterproof so we can listen in the pool or shower without disturbing you)
✨ stethoscope, BP cuff, & thermometer
✨ newborn exam supplies & pulse oximeter
✨ keepsake certificate for baby’s footprints
✨ suturing supplies & numbing medication
✨ birth mirror so you can see your baby’s head while pushing or we can take a peek at your progress without disturbing you
✨ catheterization supplies in case of severe postpartum hemorrhage
✨ emergency medications
✨ sterile instruments to cut baby’s cord (usually not until at least 60-90 minutes after birth!)
✨ so many herbal tinctures, homeopathic remedies, & essential oils. We love utilizing these to help your birthing and postpartum process and they work so well we rarely need medications! 🫶🏼

Not pictured here is a full resuscitation set up with heating pad, oxygen, suction equipment, ambu bag for baby, and mask for mom. We also bring a birth pool, peanut ball, & birth stool to each birth! ✨

Yesterday’s baby had the most beautiful spiral cord! We love seeing these cords go from plump and blue to floppy and white. When I asked this mama if we could share this photo, I had to explain that birth nerds love a pretty cord photo 🥹🌀
