Public Safety Advisory: Fentanyl Awareness
The Tupelo Police Department is urging residents to be aware of a recent rise in fentanyl-related activity across North Mississippi. Law enforcement agencies have reported an increase in the purity and potency of fentanyl being seized, particularly in areas connected to the Memphis drug supply line. This trend often impacts our region directly.
In recent weeks there has also been a noticeable increase in overdoses here in the Tupelo area, even surpassing numbers seen in neighboring counties. Investigators believe this may be linked to a particularly dangerous batch of fentanyl circulating locally.
Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to talk with their children and loved ones about the dangers of fentanyl and counterfeit pills. These substances are increasingly being made to look like legitimate prescription medications such as oxycodone, Xanax, and other common pills. Even a single dose can be fatal.
If you suspect someone may be experiencing an overdose, call 911 immediately. Quick action saves lives.
Together we can help protect our community and prevent further tragedy.
