Bear, the First Healer
A sacred song of honor
Before men knew the name of pain,
Before the herbs had names—
The Bear walked softly through the wood,
And whispered healing flames.
He tasted roots the Earth had grown,
He listened to her breath.
And where he slept, the flowers bloomed
With life returned from death.
No shaman taught him ancient ways,
No scroll or chant was read—
The forest gave him sacred touch,
The silence taught instead.
His paws held strength, but never harm,
His growl could shake the sky—
Yet in his eyes, the gentlest fire,
That asked not how, but why.
The medicine man, the midwife old,
The quiet gatherer—
All learned from Bear to see the wound,
Then listen deeper there.
So honor him, the fur and bone,
The breath that moves with care—
For every healing hand we raise
Was once a gift from Bear.
