What began in 1890 as a small home created by the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic has grown into a legacy of care spanning more than a century.
Founded to provide safety, dignity, and support for widows and female relatives of Union Civil War soldiers, LGAR Health & Rehabilitation Center first opened its doors in Pittsburgh as a place of shelter and stability. Over time, the Home evolved, first offering room and board, and later becoming a nursing facility in Turtle Creek that adapted to changing needs while staying rooted in compassion.
Though much has changed since those early days, the heart of LGAR remains the same: care grounded in respect, dignity, and purpose.
