Preeclampsia does not discriminate but some mothers face a higher risk.

Risk factors can include:
✔️ First pregnancy
✔️ History of high blood pressure
✔️ Diabetes
✔️ Carrying multiples
✔️ Obesity
✔️ Autoimmune disorders
✔️ Previous preeclampsia

And while these factors matter, every pregnant woman deserves to have her symptoms taken seriously regardless of her “risk level.”

Too often, Black women experience delayed diagnosis, dismissal, and poorer maternal outcomes because of systemic healthcare disparities.

Awareness is not just about knowing the risks it is about making sure every mother is heard, believed, and properly cared for.

WAWC Healthcare is committed to educating, advocating, and providing compassionate prenatal care that centers your voice. 💗

One thing about maternal mental health that we don't talk about enough is how easy it is to miss when someone is struggling.

Especially when they're still functioning.
Still showing up.
Still taking care of everybody else.

A lot of people don't say "I'm not okay" directly.

Sometimes it comes out as withdrawal, overwhelm, irritability, shutting down, feeling emotionally exhausted, or just seeming different than usual.

And honestly, a lot of us were never taught what distress can actually look like.
That's part of why we're offering this Talk Saves Lives training.

Not to scare people.
But because knowing how to recognize when something feels off, ask questions, and respond supportively matters.
Especially in seasons like pregnancy, postpartum, and major life transitions where people can already feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unseen.
If this feels important to you, we'd love for you to join us.

Some symptoms are not “just part of pregnancy.”

Preeclampsia can escalate quickly, which is why warning signs should never be ignored or brushed aside.

Pay attention to:
▪️ Elevated blood pressure
▪️ Severe headache
▪️ Blurry vision
▪️ Swelling in the hands or face
▪️ Pain under your ribs
▪️ Trouble breathing

You know your body better than anyone. If something feels off, seek care immediately and push for answers.

At WAWC Healthcare, we are committed to making sure mothers have the education and support they need to recognize when something isn’t right.

Because listening to women saves lives. 💗

We don't always miss the signs because we don't care.
Sometimes we miss them because we're expecting them to look a certain way.

Clear. Obvious. Easy to recognize.

But a lot of people who are struggling don't look like that.

They look responsible.
They look dependable.
They look like the person everyone else leans on.

And because of that, they're often the ones who get overlooked.

This is why learning how to recognize distress matters.
Not just in the moments when it's obvious, but in the moments when something just feels... different.

We'll be talking more about this in our Talk Saves Lives training
and how to respond when someone might be struggling.

We hear this stat a lot.

1 in 5 experience depression or anxiety after birth.

And that matters. But that's not the full picture.
Not every experience has a name. And when it doesn't, it can be harder to recognize when someone is struggling.

Some signs are easy to miss.
Some things go unsaid.

That's why we're creating space for these conversations this month and oftering a Talk Saves Lives training on su***de prevention so we can better recognize signs of distress and know how to respond.

If you're interested in joining us, you can register by going to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/talk-saves-lives-training-tickets-1988660679626?aff=oddtdtcreator or scan the QR code in this post.

WAWC Healthcare was honored to serve as a vendor at the Diamonds for Doulas Slice Slice Baby Community Baby Shower this weekend! 🍕🍼💜

Events like this are so important because they allow families to connect directly with resources, education, and support systems that can make a real difference throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

At WAWC Healthcare, we believe healthcare should go beyond the exam room. Being present in the community gives us the opportunity to meet families where they are, answer questions, provide education, and ensure expecting parents know they have a safe, supportive place to turn for care.

From prenatal services and pregnancy support to reproductive healthcare and community programs, we are committed to walking alongside families every step of the way.

Thank you to Diamonds for Doulas for creating such a beautiful and impactful event for our community. We are always proud to partner in spaces that uplift, educate, and support mothers and babies. 💜

There's a version of motherhood people see... and a version many experience silently.

Maternal mental health is about making space for the full truth. Not just what looks good on the outside, but what's felt, carried, and often left unspoken during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

This space is for mothers, birthing people, and anyone navigating this season of life.
Because sometimes it looks like:
Holding it all together. Showing up for everyone else
Being "fine" while quietly overwhelmed
his month, we're creating space for real conversations:

The truth about maternal mental health
Building your village

The thoughts we don't say out loud Navigating change, loss, and identity
You don't have to be falling apart to need support.
And you don't have to navigate this alone.

What's something you wish people understood about maternal mental health?
