We’re excited to launch our inpatient psychiatry teaching service at North Harbor, the 54‑bed psychiatric unit at DCH Northport. With Dr. Reeves, program director, and Dr. Burns, associate program director, serving as the inpatient attendings, our residents will train in a setting that plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families experiencing mental health crises across western Alabama.

Alabama is ranked 42nd in the United States for psychiatrists per population, so there is certainly a demand that is not being met. We know our residents and graduates will provide excellent clinical care to those in need across the state for decades to come with attention to rural areas where the shortage is much worse.
