❤️Loving oneself, according to many resources including ChatGPT, involves self-acceptance, self-compassion, and self-care. It means acknowledging your worth, flaws and all, and treating yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer a friend. It also involves setting healthy boundaries, practicing self-care, and celebrating your unique qualities.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Self-Acceptance:
Accepting your whole self: This includes your strengths and weaknesses, past mistakes, and imperfections.
Recognizing your inherent worth: You are valuable just as you are, regardless of achievements or external validation.
Challenging negative self-talk: Replace negative thoughts with positive and affirming ones.
2. Self-Compassion:
Treating yourself with kindness: Be gentle with yourself, especially during difficult times.
Forgiving yourself: Everyone makes mistakes, and it's crucial to learn from them and move forward.
Practicing self-compassion: Acknowledge your struggles without judgment.
3. Self-Care:
Taking care of your physical health: Get enough sleep, eat nourishing foods, and exercise.
Prioritizing your emotional well-being: Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
Setting healthy boundaries: Protect your time and energy by saying no to things that drain you.
4. Positive Affirmations:
Repeating positive statements: Regularly remind yourself of your positive qualities and potential.
Focusing on your strengths: Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments.
Visualizing success: Imagine yourself achieving your goals and feeling confident.
5. Seeking Support:
Surrounding yourself with positive people: Spend time with those who uplift and support you.
Seeking professional help when needed: Don't hesitate to reach out to a therapist or counselor if you're struggling.
By incorporating these practices into your daily life, you can cultivate a deeper sense of self-love and appreciation.

Abstract

Lavender essential oil has been used as an anxiolytic drug, a mood stabilizer, a sedative, spasmolytic, antihypertensive, antimicrobial, analgesic agent as well as a wound healing accelerator. We have studied for the first time the efficacy of lavender essential oil inhalation for the treatment of migraine in a placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Methods: Forty-seven patients with definite diagnosis of migraine headache were divided into cases and controls. Cases inhaled lavender essential oil for 15 min, whereas the control group used liquid paraffin for the same time period. Patients were asked to record their headache severity and associated symptoms in 30-min intervals for a total of 2 h. We matched the two groups for key confounding factors.

Results: The mean reduction of headache severity in cases was 3.6 ± 2.8 based on Visual Analogue Scale score. The reduction was 1.6 ± 1.6 in controls. This difference between the controls and cases was statistically significant with p < 0.0001. From 129 headache attacks in cases, 92 responded entirely or partially to lavender. In the control group, 32 out of 68 recorded headache attacks responded to placebo. The percentage of responders was significantly higher in the lavender group than the placebo group (p = 0.001).

Conclusion: The present study suggests that inhalation of lavender essential oil may be an effective and safe treatment modality in acute management of migraine headaches.https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22517298/

Migraine is the most common type of neuro-vascular headache. And it can be extremely debilitating to our clients.

Unfortunately, the most common drugs used to “treat” them can have major, long-term side effects in the GI tract which tend to create disease elsewhere. And over-use of drugs (too long OR too much) can actually cause the very headaches they are trying to relieve! Your patients and clients are HIGHLY unlikely to realize this fact – and thus realize the importance of addressing their headaches in other, truly healing ways.

I want to share with you some key pearls about migraine right now. Below is a specific set of remedies I have seen work many times in providing ongoing migraine prevention. Fewer headaches. Less intense. Shorter. And in some cases: full relief. They can take 2 or 3 months to achieve full effectiveness, so it’s important for your clients to be consistent and committed (and be sure to set their expectations properly!). Of course, we want to be practicing in the true spirit of functional medicine! Use this type of remedy for Rapid Relief while you delve into bio-individuality and support each unique patient or client in exploring and identifying their specific Root Causes of migraines beyond a need for these key nutrients.

Riboflavin. The lowly Vitamin B2 is a powerful remedy for migraine, activating the MTHFR enzyme needed for methylation and directly supporting cellular metabolism. You will need 400-500mg once daily which is a therapeutic dose (and yes, an admittedly high one). There is excellent research into this dynamic here and here.
Magnesium. Consider 300-400mg twice daily with food, but build up one dose at a time. The glycinate and malate forms are easy to find, easily absorbed, and effective, without over-stimulating bowels. Learn more about magnesium from Dr. Mark Hyman here! This minerals is so effective that IV magnesium is used for treatment of acute migraine in care facilities. (Note that these doses are contraindicated in those with kidney disease).
CoQ10. An absolutely critical enzyme for energy generation in our mitochondria (the little energy factories in every cell of our body; especially the heart and the brain). For migraine, consider 100-150mg twice daily with food. Be sure to use the ubiquinol or other enhanced absorption formula, especially for those over ~40 y/o (some of us lose our ability to convert ubiquinone to the reduced ubiquinol form as we age). This has also been studied.
For real-time migraine relief, it’s important to take action as soon as the first inklings of one appear. Help your clients to choose to honor their body’s needs and slow down the process by lying down in a dark, quiet room and practice vagus-triggering breathing (e.g. box breathing). A combination of lavender and peppermint essential oils can be quite powerful if used quickly and repeatedly to prevent a “spiraling-up” migraine or at least reduce the intensity. Aromatherapy sounds weak to many people, but it’s been shown to be quite effectively. In non-sensitive individuals, you may also dilute both with a carrier oil and apply topically (to the head and pulse points as well).
