The Story of Code H.O.R.S.E.

From our CEO and Founder, Cher Myers: My father was a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict, and two tours of the Vietnam War. As a young girl I saw first hand the invisible wounds and the visible wounds of war and how it impacted my family’s life; So I entered the world of mental health to make a difference and help others. It was destiny that horses came into my life and showed me how their non-judgmental and forgiving natures make such an impact on the mind, body, and spirit.

After that there was no looking back.

Later I married a man whose father was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and a 100% disabled veteran. In addition, my husband is a retired law enforcement officer (LEO) of 36 years (who is the love of my life) which further reinforced my passion for helping veterans and first responders with PTSD. Understanding and living the culture of military, first responders, and the sacrifices they give to protect others, has had such an profound impact on my life.

From 2011-13 I was the co-researcher with the university of central Florida, college of medicine, using my protocol to study the impact of equine therapy on veterans with PTSD and/or TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) that I had practiced over the past 20 years. Veterans were introduced to therapy horses during my program and completed initiatives that gave them the tools to relax and to be in the moment. The results clearly showed success in that horses make a difference.
