What if stage fright isn’t the problem?

What if it’s actually part of the process?

Many singers think confidence means getting rid of nerves completely.
But the truth is… even the world's greatest performers feel them.

Adele has spoken about panic attacks before concerts.
Barbra Streisand avoided live performances for 27 years after forgetting lyrics on stage.
Luciano Pavarotti worried he would forget his technique before performing.

The difference isn't that they stopped feeling fear.

They learned how to work with it.

In this new video, I share three simple steps to help singers transform stage fright into focused, grounded performance energy.

Because your racing heart and shaking hands don't mean you're failing.

They often mean you care deeply about your craft.

And that passion can become your greatest strength on stage.

What part of performing makes you the most nervous?

You’re backstage.
Your hands are shaking.
Your heart is racing.

Instead of spiraling into “What if I mess up?”, try this simple neuroscience-backed technique:

Name what you're feeling.

When you calmly label your emotions, it creates space between you and the fear. Anxiety stops controlling the moment and you can step back into your performance.

Sometimes the difference between freezing and finding your flow is just one small shift in awareness.

Your thoughts are not the truth.
They’re mental events.

🎥 Today’s new video is live: Noting Your Judgments: A Guided Meditation for Singers.

If you’ve ever:
• Replayed a mistake for hours
• Judged yourself mid-performance
• Spiraled after one imperfect moment

This meditation will help you practice something foundational in mindfulness-based stress reduction: noting.

Not fixing.
Not fighting.
Not suppressing.

Just noticing.

When you learn to separate your judgments from your actual experience, something shifts.

Your body softens.
Your breath deepens.
Your performance becomes freer.

Press play when you have 10 quiet minutes, and give yourself the gift of non-judgment 💛

Struggling with self-criticism before or after you sing? This guided meditation will help you separate your judgments from your actual experience, so you can perform with more freedom and calm.

In this video, I guide you through a foundational mindfulness practice called noting, used in mindfulness-based stress reduction and insight meditation. You’ll learn how to:

• Regulate your nervous system with breath
• Observe sensations without reacting
• Notice judgmental thoughts without getting hooked
• Build awareness that supports confident performance

This practice is especially powerful for singers dealing with perfectionism, stage anxiety, or harsh inner criticism.

Take a few quiet minutes, close your eyes, and allow yourself to enter a judgment-free zone.

You don’t need to silence your mind to sing beautifully.
You just need a new relationship with it 💛

Your heart is racing.
Your mouth is dry.
Your thoughts are sprinting ahead of you.

Before you fight your anxiety… try this instead:

Name it.

Neuroscience shows that labeling what you feel activates the rational part of your brain and calms the stress response. You’re not broken. Your nervous system just needs a signal that you’re safe.

What if the voice in your head isn’t the problem…
… but your relationship to it is?

This week, I’m sharing a guided meditation called Noting Your Judgments.

As singers, we’re constantly evaluating:
Was that note flat?
Did they like me?
Why did I mess that up?

Judgment can feel automatic. Instant. True.

But mindfulness teaches us something powerful:
You can notice a thought… without becoming it.

In this meditation, I’ll guide you through:
✨ Separating your experience from your judgment of it
✨ Calming the nervous system with breath
✨ Learning to “name and leave” self-critical thoughts

Because confidence on stage doesn’t come from silencing your mind.
It comes from changing how you relate to it.

If you’re a singer who struggles with self-criticism, this one is for you.

Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss Thursday’s release 💛

Read that again.

As singers, we’re often taught to “think positive” or “push through” nerves.

But control isn’t the goal.
Awareness is.

When you name a thought,
“That’s fear.”
“That’s self-doubt.”
“That’s perfectionism talking.”

you create just enough distance to choose how you respond.

Your thoughts can be loud.
They don’t have to be in charge.

If this resonates, go watch this week’s video on the “Name It to Tame It” practice. It might completely change how you experience pre-performance nerves.

02/27/2026

I spoke to over 50 singers.
Only 2–3 criticized me.

But I let those few voices silence me for 20 years.

If you’re a singer who’s been crushed by negative feedback, this is your reminder:
Setbacks don’t define you. One performance. One comment. One misunderstanding. None of it gets to decide your future.

You can rebuild. You can return. You can reclaim the stage in your own time, in your own way. 🎤✨

Mind-Body-Voice

“Your body is your instrument”? I don’t think so.

As a singer, you’ve heard that. But if that’s what you believe, you will never be the performer you could be! You’re cheating yourself and your audience if you stop there.

As a singer/vocal coach, health/life coach and massage therapist I have seen that you need your physical body for creating the structure: the breathing, the sound, and the ears to critically listen and discern. You also need your mental and emotional capacity to learn, interpret, feel, and convey the message and the meaning the composer had in mind. Finally, the other part of your instrument is your spiritual voice: the magical-mystical inspired part that sings through you and lands in the heart of your listener and moves their soul to weep or cheer.

Do you want to be a better performer and sing with confidence and consistency? Have better breath support and energy, singing with confidence all the way to the ends of the phrase? Shaping your vocal line to rise and fall with the emotion of the message? Would being able to do that be more fun?
