I was recently complimented for having healthy boundaries and was totally flabbergasted. I feel boundaries are an area I still have so much space to improve upon. Recently I am noticing that I am able to set reasonable social and work boundaries and I am planting seeds for prioritizing my health and well-being. What still remains a challenge are my internal boundaries and the capacity to reaffirm my own self worth in the face of criticism or a challenging interaction. As is my usual MO, I can cognitively remind myself that I am more than others think of me, or someone is having a bad day and taking it out on me. However, I am still letting these thoughts, ideas, and words into my felt sense and internal belief system. It is a conscious and constant practice to differentiate what belongs to me and what doesn’t. Therein lies the deep work of boundaries and true recovery for me. Boundaries are designed to keep us and the people we love safe so that true connection can happen. In my case, I still need to work on prioritizing my own emotional and energetic safety so that I can continue to show up as my true self, free and clear of the opinions of others, and grounded in my own self worth.

Fall is the ultimate symbol for the power of transformation. The wind picks up and we can palpably feel the shift in the air. Naturally we turn to cozy sweaters and scarfs and warm soups to nourish and ground. Our innate human wisdom (and love for all things cozy) remind us that seasons of change in life require extra grounding practices. We need to consciously nourish and care for ourselves in order to transform and grow. It can be challenging and sometimes painful to navigate change and uncertainty, but the trees show us every year how beautiful it is to let go of what we no longer need.

If I’ve learned one thing in recovery, it’s that we aren’t meant to work through the hardest things alone. Our nervous systems are wired for connection, but our human brains can convince us we need to isolate when we are struggling. Being in recovery requires that we are honest with ourselves and we commit to walking a path of truth to live a life that is in alignment with our values and highest good, and we cannot walk the path alone. We have to commit to doing our own work, and we need each other to truly heal. There is something tangibly powerful when communities of like minded people gather to share and support one another, and in these spaces I am always reminded that the things we think isolate us are the things that connect us the most.

A resilient nervous system is not one that never gets activated, but one that can return to its natural rhythm in a proportionate amount of time relative to the stressor. Being a resilient individual means that we can handle the changes and stress that life inevitably brings and we can persevere through adversity to keep taking the next step forward.
In my own recovery journey I have felt at times a lack of resiliency and perceived myself to be less than adequate in my ability to persevere. When I take a step back and exercise self compassion, I can see that the exact opposite is true. The people I have met in recovery are often the strongest and most resilient people I know, and also the most sensitive and caring. All of us on the path have overcome insurmountable odds to be where we are, and any amount of progress deserves to be celebrated. Sometimes the biggest indicator of strength is knowing when to rest. We are all more resilient than we give ourselves credit for, and that quality is the reason we are here today.
It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, sad, angry, anxious, or tired. It’s normal to have an emotional response to things in your environment. The more we acknowledge and make space for these feelings, the more we allow ourselves to come back to our natural rhythm.

Zero Balancing (ZB), Yoga, Meditation, and Somatic Experiencing (SE) can be helpful for anyone, but I have seen the most profound benefits for myself and others when working with trauma resolution and recovery. As I continue my SE training, I have expanded my menu of services to include an option for a longer session time for those interested in exploring integrated treatments. You may still choose a 60 minute ZB session or private yoga session, which includes time for consultation and session framing, and I now offer 90 minute integrated sessions, which gives us more time and more options to curate the ideal treatment for you.
If you choose to work with me for multiple sessions, the beauty of the integrated work is that what we do might look different each time as we honor the unique and changing needs of your body from day to day. I’d be honored to have your trust as I explore how to optimize the synergy of these various modalities, and I strongly believe there is great potential for healing and change in this work. I’ve experienced it first hand through all of these tools individually, and my greatest wish as a practitioner is to pay forward some of the benefits I’ve received from these highly intelligent healing modalities and help others live a more fully embodied life.
If you have questions about my work you can always message me or visit my website for more information!

✨new retreat announcement!✨
Nourishing Your Inner Resource: a full day retreat for mind, body, and spirit
How do you maintain balance when change feels restrictive, challenging, or unsafe?
Even the most dedicated souls can experience a disconnection from self when we are pulled in many directions by obligations and challenges.

In nourishing this inner resource, our spirit can be a constant foundation of comfort throughout the seasons of life. Within change lies a limitless potential for growth. When we ground ourselves through these changes, we unlock our innate capacity for transformation.
Kelly and Laura are excited to offer this day of movement, meditation, and self-inquiry. This workshop offers a safe and transformative container where we may grow in community together. Join us on Saturday, October 22 at Casa De Luz for this day of grounding through transformation, restorative self-care and connection.

Truth and honesty is often the first bus stop on the recovery journey. What can get overlooked is that we need a huge helping of self compassion before we attempt to look in the truth box. It can be incredibly uncomfortable, and it's 1000% necessary that we stand in our naked truth in order to fully find ourselves again. Recovery leaves no room for lies or denial, and in my experience, it is the ultimate freedom to live fully in one’s truth.
However, identifying what is the “capital T” truth is not always clear. There are veils of reaction, habits, conditioning, and judgment that can color what we are seeing in the present. We may have adopted various patterns of ignoring both the truth and our true feelings in order to survive in the past, and there may need to be a great deal of learning and unlearning before we can truly trust ourselves again. With self compassion as our anchor, we can begin to find our way to our truth and to live a life of greater clarity.

Recovery Support Group meets tomorrow 8/2 at 7pm. We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month for meditation, sharing circle, and an opportunity to connect with community. Message me if you’d like to attend-all are welcome! Please bring your own cushion or blankets to sit on. Donations will go directly back into the group for supplies.

Healing means rediscovering flow and ease with the stream of daily life. Trauma can leave us in a state of dysregulation, but our potential to heal is limitless. It’s our natural state to find our flow and for the nervous system to return to its natural rhythm.

I’m currently offering yoga, Zero Balancing, and integrated trauma healing sessions with Somatic Experiencing. Check out my website for more info or to book!

Learning to take care of myself has been (and continues to be) one of the biggest challenges in my recovery. First there was learning how to listen to my body and identify my needs, and then there came the actual giving it to myself or asking for what I need. Way easier said than done! One of the key takeaways of the 12 Step philosophy for me was to never let yourself get too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. These are the 4 horsemen of relapse! The best thing we can do for ourselves and for our partners, family, and community, is to care for ourselves.
Self care is of course very trendy right now, but the reality is it’s not all bubble baths and manicures. Sometimes truly caring for myself means doing the thing that I really don’t want to do, or not doing the thing that I really want to do. It’s an ongoing self inquiry of considering, “What would truly nourish me in this moment?” It requires a balance of self compassion, nurturing, and discipline to stay the course.
Recently I came across a post that listed the seven types of rest: physical, mental, social, spiritual, sensory, emotional, and creative. This was a big lightbulb moment for me because I often feel like I’m the kind of tired that sleep can’t fix. With some extra tools and considering what type of rest I might need, I am able to (sometimes) figure out what would be most restful for my mind, body, and spirit. Rest and self care are essential on the path of recovery, and if giving yourself permission to truly rest is unfamiliar, you are not alone! We are all on the path together and I would be honored to hold space for you tomorrow at our bi-monthly recovery support group.

This past weekend I participated in an intensive leadership training for The Yoga of 12 Step Recovery (Y12SR). I loved learning about the intersection of the 12 steps and yoga philosophy, and I feel empowered with new tools to help my community. As someone who has not experienced active addiction in the traditional sense, I often feel the impostor syndrome creep in as I do this work. For me personally, addiction has manifested mostly in behaviors, and I identify as someone who is in recovery from an eating disorder, codependency, and from using substances, self harm, other people, shopping, and anything I can escape reality with to numb out. I have also been greatly affected by the addiction of loved ones. This training reminded me of the importance of doing the work and helping anyone who is willing to make a change in their life regardless of how addiction has presented itself. We are all more the same than we are different. One of my biggest takeaways from the weekend was that “we all are addicted to the way we process our reality.”
Y12SR meetings are open to anyone struggling with addiction or addictive behaviors, and anyone affected by the addiction of a loved one. In this integrated healing space all conversations and all voices are welcome, and the aim is to unite the cognitive and the somatic, taking the principles of the 12 step program and coupling them with a yoga practice that evokes the felt sense of the principles. I had the privilege of studying with Nikki Myers, the founder of Y12SR, this weekend and she challenged all of us to remember that this is not about us or any individual. We only need to get out of our own ways to hold space for others. Addiction impacts every single one of us in some form or another, and as Nikki would say, “how dare we not do this work.”
Curious about Y12SR or about your own recovery journey? Comment or message me and let’s talk! I would love to start hosting a public Y12SR meeting if there is enough community interest, so please let me know if you’d like to stay informed on potential locations and dates! Y12SR is open to everyone and anyone whether or not you’ve worked the steps. It is not a substitute for treatment or a 12 Step meeting. It can be extremely helpful in relapse prevention and as a supplement to your toolbox. Let’s normalize the conversation about how much addiction shows up in all of our lives to remind us that we are never alone. I’ll close with one more wisdom nugget from this weekend, “no one can do it for you, and you can’t do it alone.”

Here to care for you always with sliding scale options. 💙
If you’ve tried traditional therapy or other healing methods and you feel like there is a level of processing and healing you are still craving, know that you are not alone. That was very much my experience until I tried Zero Balancing and Somatic Experiencing. I approach healing from a whole body, whole person approach, and I see myself as a facilitator for you do your own healing.
I offer yoga and ZB sessions as standalone services, and I offer integrated trauma healing sessions that include aspects of ZB, SE, sound healing, yoga, and meditation. If you’re curious, comment, DM, or head over to my website for more information!

Through therapy and navigating my own trauma healing, I can identify clear points in my life or past versions of me that need attention and support. Some of them I still feel a connection to, and some of them feel like I’m watching a movie about someone else. It’s not necessarily the ones that are farthest in the past that I feel most disconnected from, and I know that when I am having trouble seeing a situation clearly or I have a reaction that is out of proportion to the present moment, there is something deeper that still needs to be addressed. Chances are there’s a very good reason I reacted the way I did, and it was my body’s learned way to protect me. However, what protected me in the past may be preventing me from living to my fullest in the present.
As we heal, we need to integrate these parts back into the whole. We need to heal fully so that we can live fully in the present, and not interpret what’s happening now through a veil of past trauma. That likely means we will need to exercise a lot of self compassion as we continually welcome all parts of ourselves to our journey. It’s a constant practice of self awareness, self inquiry, and using our tools to reorient to the present moment. It takes immense courage to see a pattern and make the decision to try something new. One of the most beneficial resources for me has been knowing that I am not walking this path alone. If you are feeling like you could use the support of community, I hope that you’ll join us for recovery group.
