Introducing my new supervise Laura Gonzalez, LMFT-A!
Therapist, coach, mamá of three and leader of the community 🌲🌳

As a therapist — but first and foremost a mother of three and an immigrant — Lau Gonzalez, LMFT-A, has turned her own postpartum challenges into a passion for maternal mental health.

With expertise in child development as well as individual adult and family therapy; she helps parents move beyond one-size-fits-all solutions to create balance, realistic self-care, and compassion — leading to stronger maternal mental health and lasting family wellness.

Lau and I are so excited to partner together in efforts to make therapy more accessible to clients.
She will now be accepting Aetna insurance!

Please reach out to Lau at lau@sanasanamama.com for inquiries and scheduling.

Florecer Behavioral Health is now a PLLC and is insured independently with Aetna!

Mackenzie and I have partnered together in an effort to make therapy accessible so that she can provide services via Aetna under LMFT supervision (there’s a lot of other legalities that take place so that this can occur - if you have questions, feel free to reach out!).

Grateful for the opportunity to work with her as she is a vibrant, energetic, electric, hardworking therapist and momma of two!

Mackenzie previously worked in the medical professions and specializes in working clients with chronic illness, healthcare workers and parents!

If you are interested in working with Mackenzie please reach out to her at hello@boundlesstherapyandcoaching.com!

I wanted to introduce y’all to these amazing therapists and supervisees and what they’re up to!

Supervising and training our next generation of therapists has been a such a rewarding journey and it has allowed me to grow in many of my own personal and professional areas as a person and therapist.

I’m truly grateful for the opportunity that I was both offered both to start my supervision journey and that I get to work such awesome, hardworking and talented therapists.

Feel free to reach out to me to inquire about being in connection to them or regarding their offerings and services that offer!

Let’s be real…
Times have been tough. The world is going through big changes in all areas, socially, politically, environmentally, and it’s all been hard to keep up and very stressful.
My present experience as of late with clients has been to bring in tools for psycho-education on how to regulate big emotions such as fear and anger.
These are one the most difficult to manage because they are so unsettling, uncomfortable and painful. These emotions have to power to either empower or destroy us.

Living in fear creates worry, anxiety, racing thoughts and can take us to places that may cause us to avoid, isolate and ignore our present lives.

Anger has the power to evoke other strong emotions that may cause us to harm ourselves or others.

Both of these emotions are valid and understandable as to why we may get triggered or experience them.
The key in managing them is knowing that we do have power and control over them and there ways to manage them that are not harmful to ourselves or others.

Here I share some steps to take to include;
1. Identifying triggers
2. finding healthy releases or identifying grounding strategies to help you self-regulate when the difficult emotion may arise.
3. Seeking social support

Self-regulation or co-regulation with a trusted person can serve wonders and know that the emotion will pass!
We want to tend it like a friend who comes to visit, they can stay for a bit but you can’t extend your stay for too long!
I hope they can be helpful!!!

A new offereing to come soon!

Something I’ve been so excited to finally share!
I’ve thought about this for the longest and I thought it would need to be important for me to be a resource to those with ATLEAST some years of experience in this before I did share what it takes to start a private practice in the mental health field as a therapist.

I’ve been on the journey for about 4 years now and MAN, I’ve learned A LOT!
Mostly about myself and what I truly am capable of. I’ve learned the importance of self-trust, budgeting, finances, investing time and money properly, patience, communication and consistency!

I’d love to be a guide for those curious to start the journey themselves - that are ready to take the leap to provide such much needed services during this time and era. There are many avenues to provide services and no which way is wrong or right! If you’re interested in doing so in a way that feels true to your need to provide a healing space for others while also having the time to have a healthy work life balance, I’d say it’s the way to go (and yes I’m talking from experience).

I believe in you! And can tell you that’s it’s possible!
More info to come soon but please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at paolag@florecerbh.com for any questions or if you’d like to consult for any reason!
Thanks! 🫶🏼🪻🌷🪷

Last week I had the wonderful and second opportunity to be a guest lecturer at my sister’s Sociology of Latinos and Immigration class. The topic was on the effects of immigration on immigrants mental health. The featured article was “ESTAMOS TRAUMADOS: THE
EFFECT OF ANTI-IMMIGRANT
SENTIMENT AND POLICIES ON THE
MENTAL HEALTH OF MEXICAN
IMMIGRANT FAMILIES”

My sister, Dr. Melissa Garcia
is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Texas State University. She is everything to me, my bestie, my guide, my supporter. I tell everyone that I would not be who I am if it weren’t for her. She helped me through the college application process, helped my find scholarships and is always there for me even in the toughest of journeys.

A goal of mine has always been to be a speaker and most importantly a mental health advocate for our community.
I’m so grateful she presented me with this opportunity recently and last Fall. The experience pushed me to face any fears how I had about public speaking and to just be myself while also serving as an advocate and resource to the students.

Thanks to my sis, TX State University and the students, it was an honor to stop by! The students def put me on the spot with some their questions being very thoughtful about whats it’s like to be in a therapists shoes 🛋️🤓

Hey there,
I hope you’re doing well. And if not, that’s ok too.
No one should tell you that how your experience or reality currently is or that your emotions are “bad” or “good”
They are what they are and you wants to be noticed and taken care of.
You are the most important person right now and to be there for you means having the capacity to be there for others.

So ask yourself right now- what do you need?
Sometimes it’s rest, a break, to eat a good meal, to have some fun, get out of the house….. whatever it is.
My hw to you is to do it.
Inner you is waiting to be heard.
Connecting to you is hard, I know.
Be kind, be gentle and loving towards yourself.
They deserve it.
Con mucho amor 🫂
^I sound like Walter Mercado 😂
