Today marks the 5th anniversary of 612 MASH.
Our nonprofit was born in the streets—at the epicenter of racial justice, 38th and Chicago, where George Floyd was murdered. Out of tragedy, our community rose.

When EMS refused and the city failed us, it was our people who stepped up. From that moment, 612 MASH has been a grassroots organization, built by the hands and hearts of community members who chose to serve.

These five years have not been easy, but they have been worth every step. Today, we honor and thank every volunteer—nurses, doctors, CNAs, EMTs, techs, and all healthcare personnel—who donated their time, skills, and hearts. We also deeply appreciate everyone who answered the call to donate supplies or support us financially.

We see you. We thank you. We are because of you.
And because of you, we continue to show up and serve—providing our community with the healthcare and dignity it deserves.

Our journey began during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial injustices that deeply affected Minneapolis. We emerged in response to the public lynching of George 'Perry' Floyd and the subsequent peaceful protests—protests that were unjustly criminalized and incited by the Minneapolis Police Department as well as misrepresented by mainstream media. During those challenging times, our community urgently needed healthcare professionals to address medical emergencies that arose during peaceful demonstrations. Both licensed and unlicensed individuals came together to provide essential emergency care. From this grassroots effort, 612 MASH evolved into a formal organization.

Today, we are actively working to establish a clinic in George Floyd Square, which will offer not only basic first aid but also culturally competent healthcare services and referrals to address disparities in BIPOC communities. Despite these advances, a significant gap remains. Our volunteer community outreach team—composed of CNAs, CMAs, TMAs, LPNs, RNs, NPs, PAs, and MDs—continues to provide supplemental healthcare resources. However, the demand for accessible, culturally competent care persists.
Which leads us to actively looking for dedicated volunteers to join our Community Health initiative and contribute to various aspects of community service. This opportunity is particularly beneficial for individuals aspiring to build a career in public health or healthcare. 612 Mash is excited to announce that we will be hosting monthly self-care fairs in conjunction with the CVC meetings. This month, our focus will be on heart health, offering complimentary glucose and blood pressure screenings, as well as de-escalation techniques and acupressure. We invite you to join us next weekend, February 15th, to connect and engage in this important initiative.
