The key to hormone health is balance. Hormone imbalance in women has become increasingly common in today’s society. A common imbalance that I see very often with my patients is “estrogen dominance”. What causes estrogen dominance? Estrogen dominance occurs when the body has exce...

⭐Following up from this week's post about progesterone! Today's topic is about progesterone deficiency leading to "estrogen dominance" in women.

⭐In women, as we age, our ovaries produce less and less of estrogen and progesterone. Xenoestrogens such as Plastics, herbicides, hormones in diet found in meats and milks and many others are endocrine disruptors that lead to excess estrogen. Imbalanced estrogen to progesterone levels lead to estrogen dominance and increased risk for breast and uterine cancers along with endometriosis, infertility, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, mood swings, difficulty sleeping, and more!!

⭐What's probably surprising to some of you is that estrogen dominance can even be seen in patients with deficient estrogen levels if progesterone levels are low as well.

The pic I posted was just to show you the intricate beauty of the hormone cascade!

Stay posted for the next post about progesterone deficiency/estrogen dominance in men!

Sorry for my absence, everyone! It's been quite the few weeks, am I right?

First of all, I would like to take a moment and reassure you that I'm here for each and everyone of you in whatever capacity you need- as your friend or as your doctor! Hang in there and this will all blow over shortly!

Anyway, let's talk about an extremely important hormone called progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone known for reproductive health but it has many benefits in women AND men!

Progesterone deficiency can lead to a wide variety of symptoms including hot flashes, mood swings, difficulty sleeping, increased anxiety and depression, difficulty conceiving and keeping pregnancy, irregular menstrual cycles, thyroid dysfunction, low libido, headaches, etc.

Progesterone counteracts the affects of estrogen; I like to think of progesterone as the yin to estrogen's yang. Without adequate progesterone to balance the effects of estrogen, the symptoms listed above will surely ensue. Progesterone deficiency and estrogen dominance increases your risk for uterine and breast cancer (now on Estrogen dominance later).

If you suffer from any of the symptoms I've listed in this post, give Chambers Clinic a call and schedule a free 15 minute phone or in office consultation with me! 480-568-0252

There's so much to discuss when it comes to progesterone so stay tuned for my next post about chronic stress and progesterone deficiency. Also, I'll discuss progesterone in men!

Have a great day, everyone! Stay calm and take deep breaths. I'm here for you!

I had the privilege of sharing my story in the inspirational locals section of Phoenix Voyage magazine. I hope you enjoy the read about how I got to where I am and how I practice as a naturopathic doctor!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Royer. Lacey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today? In 2009, after being a stay-at-home mom for two years, I decided to further my education. I began taking classes at my local college and fell in love with cellular …

Following up from my last post about the hormone cascade! We now know that cholesterol is the first molecule in the synthesis of hormones so now we'll discuss the next step- pregnenolone! Since the synthesis of estrogen, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone, and cortisol rely on the proper amount of pregnenolone in the body, it’s affectionately called “Mother of all Hormones.”
Pregnenolone is rarely tested in serum blood work, which is a shame! Pregnenolone deficiency can lead to deficiencies in the rest of the hormone cascade leading to unpleasant symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, hot flashes, erectile dysfunction, etc etc! That alone makes pregnenolone pretty cool but you know what makes it really cool?! Pregnenolone increases acetylcholine in the brain, a neurotransmitter involved in cognition and memory!!
Do you suffer from memory loss? Maybe it's due to lower than optimal levels of pregnenolone.

Next up: progesterone (my absolute favorite hormone but shhh.. Don't tell testosterone!)

Let’s talk cholesterol. Cholesterol has gotten a bad rap over the years and has been identified as one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular disease. I find this belief system to be extremely outdated but that topic is for another time. Cholesterol is absolutely invaluable to our health and plays crucial roles in our physiology. For example, cholesterol is embedded in every cellular membrane called a phospholipid bilayer; acting as a scaffold and protecting integrity of the cell. The brain and nervous system would not function without this important structure. Cholesterol is also involved in Vitamin D synthesis; vitamin D contributes to immune function, mood, bone health, and many more. But the most important role of cholesterol in my world is it's role in s*x hormone production. Cholesterol is the precursor to MANY hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and more.
(More on hormones and their functions in the body coming soon)!

So, next time you think about cholesterol, don't think of how it's clogging your arteries. Think about the amazing things it does for you in your body!

Did you know that your poo can tell you a lot about your overall health?

💩How many BM (bowel movements) do you have a day?
💩Are your BM a healthy consistency?
💩Do you find yourself straining to get it out?
💩Do you suffer from gas/bloating/abdominal pain?
💩Do you ever notice undigested food, mucous, or blood in your stool?

If you are having less than 1 BM a day, the consistency is hard or really soft, you notice pieces of food (other than corn), your stool floats, you strain to get the stool out of the re**um, then it might be time to see your doctor.

As a naturopathic doctor, the foundation of my treatment plans typically start with healing the gut through specialty testing, diet, and natural supplements. After all, overall health starts with a healthy gut!

Have you ever wondered what Naturopathic Medicine is? I love explaining to people I meet how we work and how we're different from the conventional medical model.

Here's the low-down:
We graduate from a 4 year accredited medical school after receiving a Bachelor's degree. While in medical school, we learn everything taught in conventional medical school such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, diagnosis and management of disease, pharmacology, imaging, etc etc. On top of all of that, we study natural treatments such as botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and more!

My goal, as a naturopathic doctor, is to treat YOU as a whole person- mind, body, and spirit while investigating the root cause of your disease.

If you've never seen a Naturopathic Doctor before, what are you waiting for!?
