I was recently talking to a new client about losing weight while perimenopausal.

Back when I first got started I had no idea that most people didn't know how to lose weight. Most don't understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods. They don't know how to count calories or what a serving size is.

When I first met Jessie she was trying to lose 20 pounds while just beginning perimenopause. She had tried Keto, WW, Intermittent Fasting, and more.

None of those had worked for her and now she was entering an especially difficult time to lose weight: perimenopause and beyond. So now what?

Well, now she is well on her way to losing that 20 lbs. She's also feeling better and has way more energy. But how did she do it?

I have a plan that works whether you are 20 or 70, but I especially cater to those of that age where perimenopause hits and women already have too much going on that they just want simple and accomplishable.

I struggle with this regarding some things.

It takes a constant reminder to myself to think I can instead of thinking I can't.

If you want to do something, do whatever it takes to believe you can do it so that you will succeed.

I use positive affirmations when something seems out of reach.

Hey, I'm over here now. At Ignite Optimism! I'll be doing all of my posting from there so jump ship and join me. I'm still a health coach and personal trainer...just focus is a little different now and we are set on GO!

A little luck never hurts, but it's not about luck.

I see pennies all the time when I'm out for walk/runs on the streets around town. Sometimes I can easily see they are on heads, but I don't take time to stop and pick them up for luck.

We have to make our own luck. And by that I mean, we have to be tough.

If you have a plan to follow that you know will create success, then your luck is that you found that plan...no matter if you paid top dollar for it, or got it for free. YOU HAVE THE PLAN!

What you do with that plan is all up to you. Take it and run with it, or wallow slowly. But do it. There will be tough days. There will be times you want to give up, but don't.

Stick to it! You can do whatever you set your mind to.

Are you overweight? Unhealthy? Menopausal? Have extra belly fat?

Are you sick of working out hard, or running dozens of miles a week, only to see the scale stay the same?

When I was trying to lose weight I was running and lifting weights a LOT. Too much. All the while, I was hurting. My body hurt. And it took a painful injury to slow me down.

I’m 60-years-old and yeah, they say (whoever they are), age is just a number. Well, “they” are wrong.

There are SO MANY WAYS our bodies change as we age. Perimenopause causes hormones to push lots of fat around our midsections and once you hit menopause it’s not going to just go away. Right?! You know what I’m talking about.

45ish on - metabolism slows. It just does. It’s not because you are lazy or whatever label you attached to it, it’s nature.

Our bodies don’t recover as quickly. Thus, a small injury can become a big injury in no time.

The hair on our legs is somehow now sprouting from our chins! AND our hair turns grey.

None of these things can be stopped! NONE! It’s nature, ya’ll.

But you can lose weight! Belly weight included.

I found a wonderful program that has been so amazing for me! And one of the most amazing parts is that once I hit my goal weight I moved into a way of eating to keep it off. All of that education comes with the program. Step by step. It’s a lifestyle plan!

The other amazing thing is that I feel fantastic! Whatever happens when you eat a balanced and healthy diet has happened to me and it’s wonderful! Mental health and physical health, both!

So what if I’m 60! I’m making the best of it! I just wish I’d known about this sooner.

I'm hearing from many women who just don't know what to do to lose weight.

Or they go on a diet and just "can't stick to it." 😔

If you can't outrun your diet or stick to a diet, chances are your weight is only going to go up with time.

Whatever your goal, if you can hit it the first minute of the first day then I'd guess it's not a big enough goal.

Because things take time...

It takes time to lose the weight.

It takes time to get faster running.

It takes time to build a business.

Whatever you are building, be it a body, career, family...it takes time.

But each day, if you are doing the work, you will see a little bit of progress, and eventually, that goal that seemed unachievable will be your new thing.

It's always your choice.

Eating healthy food is not just about the weight on the scale or what size clothes you wear.

Healthy eating is about fueling your body with what makes it run best and keeps you around on earth.

I didn't say you can never eat a cookie or a piece of cake or whatever junk food you love. It's about balance (unless you're trying to lose weight and then DON'T EAT THE JUNK).

If you ever do healthy for long enough, you will see how much better you run when you put the right fuel in your engine!
