BACK PAIN FACTS AND STATISTICS

-Worldwide, back pain is the single leading cause of disability, preventing many people from engaging in work as well as other everyday activities.

-Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work. One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year.

-Back pain accounts for more than 264 million lost work days in one year—that’s two work days for every full-time worker in the country.

-Experts estimate that up to 80% of the population will experience back pain at some time in their lives.

-Back pain can affect people of all ages, from adolescents to the elderly.

-Back pain is the third most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, behind skin disorders and osteoarthritis/joint disorders.

-Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic—meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer.

-Most people with low back pain recover, however reoccurrence is common and for small percentage of people the condition will become chronic and disabling.

-Worldwide, years lived with disability caused by low back pain have increased by 54% between 1990 and 2015.7

-Low-back pain costs Americans at least $50 billion in health care costs each year
add in lost wages and decreased productivity and that figure easily rises to more than $100 billion.

Back Pain is much easier to remedy than you would think. In many cases the pain is deminiahed within days. You do not need to suffer from chronic pain. There is a solution and all without the use of drugs, surgery, or supplements.

Working on my father this morning. He’s has chronic shoulder pain. This technique does a few things.
1. Reduces inflammation which is the cause of pain.
2. Improves the sliding surface of the tissue creating slack in the system and improving range of motion. Simple, no meds required

Quick fix. Using a chair or couch. Place one knee on pillow or soft surface and place other leg on couch or chair. Spend a minimum of 2 minutes per side opening up the front of the hips (hip flexors). These tissues tend to get very tight from spending time in a seated position daily. This in turn causes the pelvis to become out of alignment, causing nerve inflammation which leads to lower lumbar pain. NO FUN if you’ve ever experienced this. Do this drill daily to offset what I call . ENJOY. To Live pain free is to LIVE a better quality of life.

Barefoot walking though it seems completely against the grain is very healthy for not only your feet but also your wellbeing. Develop those feet. They are, after all , the first line of defense against the ground. I suggest starting with short walks in the grass. Graduate to short runs and try more intense surfaces when ready. Coaching cue: Always walk with your feet pointing straight ahead. Do not turn your feet out! This makes it much more difficult to maintain a stable arch. The feet are made of any different muscles. Develop them and see what happens ;)
