How much sodium should you have each day?

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day for most adults. Too much sodium can increase blood pressure and hurt your heart over time. In addition, the results showing up on the scale.

✅ Here’s the breakdown:

• The average American eats way too much sodium. By cutting back by 1,000 mg per day can significantly improve heart health and blood pressure.

• Your body only needs about 500 milligrams a day to function — that’s less than ¼ teaspoon of salt!

• Worried you’re not getting enough? Natural sodium in whole foods, condiments, and even a pinch of added salt at lunch and dinner is usually more than enough. Cut out all the added extra sodium in orepared and packaged foods.

• Exceptions include: elite athletes, high-heat workers (like fire fighters), or anyone under a doctor’s orders.

Hydration is so important for weight loss and health!!

Staying hydrated throughout the day is essential for maximizing weight loss and overall health. But how much water should you actually drink—and when?

How much:
Aim for at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, that’s a minimum of 80 ounces daily. Feel free to drink more if you’re thirsty—this is just the baseline.

Why it matters:
Proper hydration boosts your metabolism, supports digestion, and helps your body function at its best.

When to drink:
Space your water intake evenly throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to hydrate about an hour before or after meals. This timing helps digestion without diluting your stomach acids.

During meals:
It’s fine to take small sips during or immediately after eating—especially if it helps you swallow food or take medication. Just avoid large amounts of water with meals.

Evenings:
After your last meal (typically dinner, meal 5), consider tapering off your water intake. This can reduce nighttime bathroom trips and help improve sleep quality.

It’s not just about calories. Our bodies process junk and whole foods in completely different ways. That’s why 500 calories from a donut isn’t the same as 500 calories from fruit.
