Stop “Not Talking” about this topic. Dementia Needs to be AND MUST be Talked About.

Ignoring it could cause additional damage to everyone involved. “Everyone” means the person with it AND their family and friends around them.

Yes, those with Parkinson's thinking process is often slowed down by the disorder. Information may not be taken in as quickly. Information may not be processed out as quickly. At times information may not even be found.

The next thing is they brain will often stop encoding information. This means "they can't recall information you give them" as it actually was not "given" to them.

The brain "has a mind of its own" Also, we as caregivers don't know until we know!

Dementia Is

Dementia impacts 70% of those with Parkinson's.

"What percentage of dementia is undiagnosed? The meta-analysis showed that the proportion of undetected dementia is high; more than 60% of people with dementia are not detected
in the community and/or residential/nursing care."

Why is dementia undiagnosed?

There were many reasons for the delays in diagnosis including: False belief that dementia is a normal part of aging. Denial on the part of the individual and family. Complexity of diagnosing dementia. Doctors being reluctant to Doctors being reluctant to damage the doctor-patient relationship"
