Happy EMS Week! We want to wish all of our EMS partners a happy and safe EMS week! This year we started with our partners at Berlin Fire for a mock scene sim. Join us tonight 5-7 for trauma rounds with Dr. Izzo!

This week new and old (seasoned) Life Flight crew got to train in Groton, CT at Survival Systems. ASET (Aviation Survival & Egress Training) is an 8 hour day of classroom and in water training with the focus being on post aircraft ditching in an emergency situation and survival skills. This training includes: live cabin smoke & fire control using a fire extinguisher; full disorientation underwater escape METS (Modular Egress Training Simulator); surface water survival and hypothermia mitigation; search and rescue devices and procedures. All Life Flight crew complete this training upon hire and have the opportunity to return every 2 years, if desired (or a bit crazy 🤪). The staff and facilities are top notch, it’s a phenomenal program despite feeling like you were just in the world largest Neti Pot.

With just one week left before our annual Life Flight Symposium, our Life Flight Santa wanted to remind you to finish your continuing education credits early this year!

OEMS approved at both the Worcester and Amherst locations! 🎅🚁

Food and refreshments will be served.

Topics include adult and pediatric trauma, toxicology, and EMS updates! You don’t want to miss it!

National Aviation Day was celebrated earlier this week, on August 19th. This US observation day celebrates the development of aviation, in thanks to Orville Wright. With the discovery of flight, we were able to be the first air medical program in New England back in 1982.

Today, with our partner, Air Methods, we operate two Airbus helicopters. Life Flight 1 is an EC145 and Life Flight 2 is an EC135. 🚁

Yesterday, Life Flight 1 and Life Flight 2 participated in a regional MCI drill hosted at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. This annual event helps bring multiple assets from various departments and services throughout the Commonwealth together to help train.

Special thanks to East Brookfield Fire Department for securing our LZ for the aircraft!

This week, we pause to thank and celebrate our flight clinicians, our EMS colleagues at UMass Memorial Health, and our many EMS partners.

Hundreds upon thousands of hours are spent by our clinicians training, so we can bring critical care to the bedside or to the side of the street. In EMS we have the honor of being there for many firsts and some lasts. Without our EMS partners, we couldn’t do our job successfully!

From southern New Hampshire and Vermont to northern Connecticut and Rhode Island, and all through Massachusetts we have many Fire and EMS teams to thank and celebrate!

Thank you all, and Happy EMS Week! 🚑🚁

With coordinates verified, tones dropped, multiple phone and radio calls made, and dozens of data points collected, Life Flight is tracked along its 4 minute response time to landing at this recent scene call.

This is just a small view into the job of our communications specialists here at Life Flight.

We thank all dispatchers, including our communications specialists, for their hard work every day, and especially during Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! They are the starting point for coordinating emergency resources and providing life saving instructions through the radio, phone, and computer.
