41 weeks today and gratitude is my main emotion! I feel so fortunate to be supported by a homebirth midwife who trusts my body, trusts my baby, trusts my instincts, and trusts birth. Of course—Sean and I have been excited to meet this little one for the last month but for whatever reason, they are not ready to meet us on the outside yet. We do lots of check ins with baby and we monitor my symptoms as well and so far, everything looks normal and healthy. The medical system loves to put fear into people and control the process of birth by inducing at 39 weeks, 40 weeks, etc., but as long as everything remains low risk it is safe to go until 42 weeks. Some will say it is safe to go beyond 42 weeks, as some of our grandparents and great grandparents did, but the California law says we can go up to 42 weeks at home. All that being said, this next week will be spent trying to encourage me and baby to go into labor. I dislike that we have to start forcing things per our law but I’m grateful to be supported by the most incredible husband, the best birth team around, and the sweetest community of family and friends. I appreciate all of the supportive messages as well—sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming but I know it comes from a place of love. Please keep us in your hearts as we continue trust in the devine timing of this all and make this transition into parenthood 💜
